Mar. 1st, 2012 06:51 pm* Maryland signed marriage equality into law today!
* The Blunt/Rubio Amendment came up for vote in the Senate. this not only allows employers to deny female employees access to bith control, but allows employers to deny access to vaccines for the children of the employees. It will allow employers to deny employees access to things like AIDS screening, medication for diabetes, or even all health insurance if the employer decides to clam they are christian Scientists. Who wants to bet nearly all CEO's will suddenly "convert" to christian Science so as to be able to stop paying anything out for health insurance. I humbly submit that this may be the real reason for this sudden "religious" passion for denying health care to women. Its an excuse to deny health care to everyone who works for a living, which is one of the Republican goals. Anyway, it got voted down 51 to 48. The Republicans have vowed to keep fighting to get this sort of measure passed
* Remember that a forced non-consensual vaginal probe bill is up for vote in Pennsylvania. A petition hoping to prevent the government ordered violation of women in pennsylvania is here: http://signon.org/sign/stop-pennsylvanias-mandatory?source=s.tw&r_by=2420430
* A forced sonogram without consent law went into effect in Texas last month.
* republicans during today's Blunt debate kept claiming that allowing women access to health care is an "unwarranted government intrusion" into your life, without any acknowledgement that allowing your employer to decide every single time whether you get treatment for any condition or not is the real unwarranted intrusion, and that the real unwarranted government intrusion into people's lives is happening right now in Texas and coming soon to other states when they insist that women be literally penetrated against their will by republican fiat. how is which side is correct here even a debate?
* Gov. McDonnell said today that while TSA pat downs are beneath the dignity of the traveling public, unlike the forced vaginal probing of womnen he is advocating. O.o He is also claiming that unlike Feral health care reform which is a bad unfunded mandate, this unfunded mandate is totally fine and not the same thing.
* I refuse to call this insistence on dragging us all back to 1850 "conservative," as it looks pretty fucking radical to me. The best I can do nomenclature wise is "reactionary."
* Rachel Maddow on more forced vaginal probe hypocrisy: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46581760
* Remember Andrew Breitbart, the disreputable blogger who got Shirley Sherrod fired by editing a speech about growing past racism to help each other to make her look like a racist? You know the man who's been out accusing the wallstreet proteststers of being tapists because five women involved with the movement were raped by men who weren't and rape is always the victim's fault in reactionary eyes/ yeah, that guy. Apparently he dropped dead suddenly. I hate to speak ill of the dead, but he won't be missed.
