* It's looking like there was serious, very likely criminal, incompetence going on on that cruise ship. There is footage of the crew sending people back to their cabins while the ship was rapidly sinking?!? It also turns out the captain ordered dinner and sat around waiting for dessert while the ship sank?!? It turns out that the coast guard contacted them during the sinking, asking if they needed help, and the crew claimed it was just a black out, not a dramatic sinking?!? The cruise line continues to lie about all these points as well as their knowing about and condoning the course change on previous occasions, despite mounting documentary evidence and testimony of all these things, as well as blaming the passengers for the disaster. I think both the cruise line and the captain as so full of crap, that it amazes me there is room for anything else.

* Newt's ahead in the South Carolina polls.

* I missed the Colbert rally, alas.

* I waded through about half the extravagant quantity of BPAL sniffies I've been given. (A sniffie is a third or less of an imp). It turned out a lot of them didn't need skin testing, as they had notes like rose, vetiver, mint, and eucalyptus, thus making the process go faster. I gave up when my nose burnt out, about four hours in. I hope to finish the rest over the weekend. *fingers crossed* I still can't believe I've been gifted sniffies of the entire Frankenstein and Little Match Girl sets along with miscellaneous other Yules. Expect a monumental review post in the near future.

* Mache's still got a small limp, but is getting around as much as she normally does given the arthritis. Still no sign of infection.

* I keep thinking about the college fashions not changing much. Up here, it's all dark clothes or earth tones just generally, not just at the college. It's the thing startled me most coming North from Oregon. In Corvallis and Eugene, there was a fondness for bright colours, and clothes in the general population were more eclectic. Still, even in a College the size of the U of O, everyone knew Xavier, Mitch, and me by sight and/or description, if not by name. We stood out, even in a town where dragon print purple leggings were fashionable. I'm likely just missing the flamboyant individuals, though at the same time, when I went to WWU, I can't think of a single person I saw there who stood out like we did back in the day at U of O.

* Whether it's Duchess of Duke Street or Downton Abbey, I spend anything Edwardian with the huge shadow of WWI hanging over it, and when it gets there, spend the whole time knowing what the chances of survival were, and therefore the potential deaths of any male character under fifty hanging over me. I finished my rewatch of Duchess last night, amazed by hell well it holds up and how much impact it still manages to have, despite the comparatively low budget and it being something like thirty years old with all that entails. I think part of my disappointment with Upstairs, Downstairs was wanting it to be this. Where Duchess is subversive and humanly real, UD is all about knowing your place. *shudder* I'm still gutted, even half remembering Duchess from childhood.
