The footage of the hospital it hit is horrifying. I'm glad they had time to evacuate. I'm seeing unofficial death tolls of fifteen or so and more than 100 wounded across several states. (News sources vary on exact numbers).
* It's sounding like that school shooting may have been about violent homelife rather than bullying and the like, though nothing can be said for sure yet. They have released the names and faces of the victims. These things are heart breaking. At the same time, I always end up wondering where the press and the cameras were during the height of school shootings back in the 1970's.
* Homeland security is making lists of people twittering about or participating in the Wallstreet protests. *waves to Big Brother* Are they doing this with the tea Party, I wonder?
* Brion McClanahan is now calling for all food stamps recipients to lose the right to voe. I can only guess Republicans have decided that going state by state to disenfranchise the poor, elderly and POC as well as permanently taking the right to vote from those released from prisons isn't disenfranchising folks fast enough. After all, something like half the country is below the poverty line and if you give the working poor a choice between eating and voting, think how much better it will be for billionaires wanting to out right buy elections. * BTW, because of how delegates are awarded in Michigan, romney and santorum get the same number. In other words, despite the popular vote, it's a tie in the sense that really matters.
* Rick "frothy residue" Santorum is now spreading even more anti-education santorum, and now claiming that liberal bastion Penn state "docked my grades" over his political beliefs. to which I respond "Reeeeeeaaaaally?" Penn State is a football school with solid academics in the middle of cow country. Seriously, when I went there as a prospective, they had their own herd of cows tended by the Ag department and made their own delicious ice cream from the milk. When Berkley was holding sit ins and kids were dieing at Kent state for their anti-war beliefs, Penn State was focused on football, not politics. I have trouble seeing Penn State as a hotbed of the liberal indoctrination that he's claiming it is. Also, I am informed that Mr. Man on Dog was a Heinz supporter back in college. Heinz was a pro-choice moderate Republican, like my Mom, not a modern frothy anti-women homophobe who wants to abolish the separation of church and state. I think reasonably people might be skeptical on this one.
* Moderate Republican Olympia Snow is retiring having had it with the inability of modern Senators to negotiate and compromise. I don't blame her, honestly,
* My Caucus (Washington) is Saturday. It looks like it's the same school as last time, the one I spent the most time of any back when I was teaching. When I went there to vote for Obama there was no handicapped parking left and it was a huge gimp over many blocks in the heat. It's also disgustingly early in the morning. It's a toss up if I'll be simultaneously healthy enough and pissed off enough to go on this exhausting trek for the sake of lodging a protest vote on behalf of the "reality based" community.
* March 6th is Super Tuesday, when ten states vote at once. I expect the coverage to be exhausting.

* The alarm ran on about 5 minutes without me waking. Hector had to stand on my upper arm and howl in my ear to get me to shut it off. Given my condition, I decided I wasn't safe for driving and went back to sleep. I'm still generally ick from the pathogen, though I'm functional if I spend enough time lying still and stay home. Alas, that doesn't seem to be an option. Library books need returning, rents need paying, etc. I really need to get my shit together. If I could just be allowed to do errands in the evenings when I'm most functional, but the world doesn't work like that.
* Hector has moved out of serious PTSD episode into bratty. Bratty isn't all that fun, but I am always relieved when he's feeling well enough to be a jerk, if that makes sense. We nearly always have to pass through bratty to get sweet and cuddly.
* Why the fuck does Comedy Central think it's okay to publicize the Ralphie May special by putting up a transphobic, misogynistic rant against Chaz Bono, so that if I want to watch the Daily show or Colbert, I have to hear him calling Mr. Bono by the wrong pronouns and calling him bitch every damned commercial break? Fuck you Ralphiw May and Comedy Central!
