Dec. 10th, 2011 01:35 am* The Syrian government murdered 45 people today, including an unarmed child at the funeral of another unarmed child they murdered. The Syrian government continues to claim that Lebanese file footage from 2007 somehow justifies all this. There can be no justification for this.
* Re: captured stealth drones. 1. I have no opinion as to the veracity of either government's version of events as both our government and the Iranian one, like most governments are habitual and reflexive liars. 2. I think we can assume that China and other governments not fond of ours will have blueprints for that drone within the year. There is no way I can see for that not to happen. 3. The suspicion that the drone may have been hacked by the Iranians is not surprising to me. This sort of thing has been expected for ages, people have been writing stories based on the idea for at least a decade, and we know China (in particular) but also most far sited governments have invested heavily in programs to do this. That Iran had the sense to do this is no surprise to me.
* I am having a fascinating time watching Republican leaders and pundits pick sides on the Gingrich/Romney battle. Looks like Limbaugh's making support for Gingrich a loyalty test for listeners, while old school Republicans like George Will, Ms. Noonan, etc., jumping to push Romney because they know first hand how awful the Newt is. Fascinating. Why am I not surprised that Limbaugh is attracted to the hypocritical ego-maniacal blow hard insider over the old school in bed with Wall Street classic candidate?
* A majority of Senators voted for confirmation of an extremely qualified candidate for Head of the Consumer Protection Agency, which meant it failed as Republicans threatened filibuster because they want things like no financial regulation, no protection for mere humans from Corporate "people, and a continuation of predatory lending as practiced by pay day loan places, as charging the poor 300-400 percent interest per month seems perfectly reasonable to them.
* I see Rick Perry's been out exposing his Bachmanesque ignorance again. I wish that Presidential Candidates would take the time to brush up on 8th grade level Government curriculum. It's embarrassing that so few of the current field have enough basic knowledge to know things like how many judges sit on the supreme court or the contents of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
* Speaking of deep ignorance, Newt Gingrich doesn't seem to understand how much diversity there is in the Middle East between various countries, religious groups, ethnicities, and histories. No really. For example, Turkey, Egypt, and Lebanon all have really different histories, governments, their relationship with both Israel and the US are all dramatically different. This stuff matters if you are hoping to be President as an important part of that job is making quick decisions on foreign policy in emergencies.
* Bill O'Reilly is now claiming W. deserves the credit for getting Osama bin Laden as President Obama didn't want that to happen. *facepalm* The reality free right wing bubble makes my head hurt.
* I had crap for sleep. I had to sleep in my clothes as a man was coming to collect a clothing donation for a charity for developmentally disabled adults. Besides this interruption, there were vomiting cats, three separate calls from my pharmacy to let me know my prescriptions were ready, and most obnoxious of all, a robo call from the odious Newt Gingrich 50 minutes before the alarm went off. If I had a long distance smite button, I'd have used it. Why is the despicable Newt hassling me for votes? I live in an open primary state, so there is nothing stopping me voting in Republican primaries instead of the Democratic ones. (I have on occasion strategically. When I first moved here, rather than open primaries we had closed Democratic ones, but the Republicans let independents vote in theirs, and I was a registered Independent until they switched the system to open primaries.)
