Oct. 24th, 2011 05:30 am* Apparently, I missed the republicans fillabustering a jobs Bill fragment designed to prevent the firing of teachers, policemen, and firefighters, for the price of a half percent tax increase of half a percent on incomes over a million dollars, because the savings accounts of the ultra rich are way more important than jobs of ordinary people or the health of the economy to Senate Republicans.

* All this Shakespeare not having written his plays thing always smacks of classism to me. People don't want to believe that the son of a glover could write poetry and plays that have stood the test of centuries. Instead, they want to make the "real" author a nobleman. it's creeps me out, it does.
* Walking Dead Thought: every episode, I get angrier and angrier that they seem to have taken book Andrea's awesome and given it all to Meryl. I say this as someone who loves many things about the show, including the little back story bits the comic books lack. I'm thinking they maybe took Tyresse's awesome and gave it to Meryl too when they turned him into T-Dog. At least they are leavinbg Glenn with his share of awesome, though I wish he had more spot light time.

Date: 2011-10-25 12:36 am (UTC)I genuinely think they took all the Andrea and Tyrease awesome and gave it to Meryl, which raises some serious questions about the race and gender agenda of the show as opposed to the comic. Thee comic works really hard at diversity and sharing the awesome, down to the underwritten, but clearly seriously superhero gay male couple this year. I'm noticing some serious structural and in character sexism in the show, and it's way less racially diverse, especially when it comes to kick ass main characters. That's a problem and I'm going to be furious if it's not sorted by end of season. Andrea better get her awesome back, and they better either upgrade T-Dog or give us back Tyrease at minimum. Just saying.
I am okay with changes from the comic designed to reinject suspense for those of us who read it, but I don't like the dramatic downgrading of women and POC to make the white men look cooler.
BTW, I was amused by how many of the things in your recaps were in agreement with my opinions last year when it was new. Great minds thinking alike and all that. Shane (who is still alive)... Bwahahahaha! ;)

Date: 2011-10-25 07:41 pm (UTC)Andrea has been largely replaced by Darryl. Tyresse has been partially replaced by T-Dog (who just kinds of hangs around) and Shane. Shane is hardly in the comics - and now he fills a co-leadershipish position with Rick - a position that Tyresse occupied in the books
And even now, if the group has to split up at all, the white men will lead. Rick, Shane, Darryl, even Dale - are considered greater authorities than Andrea, Lori or Carol.
It makes me fear the introduction of Michonne - I think she may faint at the sight of Walkers and hyperventilate and fear breaking a nail if she sees a weapon.
Great minds think alike! And Shane needs to be eaten. He so needs to be eaten.

Date: 2011-10-25 11:59 pm (UTC)I want Tyresse back. I want real Andrea back. I want Michonne to be a Goddess and the eidos of Survivor when she shows up, just like she was written. I'm not sure I can keep watching if they fuck up Michonne.
I want the show to rock hard like the comic does. I didn't know quite how much it mattered to me until I found myself trying to adjust to this season and not quite managing it.
