* In Topeka Kansas they are considering repealing the domestic battery law, since saving people from violent partners is too expensive thanks to Republican budget cuts After all, domestic violence only effects humans and not corporations. in the last week, they arrested 18 batterers, but released them without charge, since prosecuting them would take time and money. Too bad for all the humans (mostly women) who will be injured or killed as a result, corporate profits and tax cuts for the rich are waaaaay more important than the lives and safety of mere ordinary people.

* Republicans are vowing to block funding to the Pentagon unless they ban GLB people in the military. (Trans folk are already banned).

* Mitt Romney is now in favour of defining life as starting at abortion, thus banning the pill as well as abortion and likely leading to the arrest of anyone who miscarries. After all, it's nearly impossible to prove a miscarriage is unintentional. Remember that we are nowe considering making domestic violence legal top save money, but we have all this money to track every single pregnancy in the country and arrest and prosecute all those women.

* Newt Gingrich wants you to know that protesting Wall street is Unamerican. Of course, the only way that makes sense is if he believes the founding fathers felt corporate interests should trump the first amendment rights of the individual. O.o As someone who used to teach this stuff for a living, I beg to differ rather strenuously.

* Herman Cain is joining Mitt Romney in claiming claiming that it's class warfare, and that not having his extremely regressive tax plan that shifts the tax burden so that the less you make the more of your income you pay is slavery. Sigh.

I'm queer in at least three senses of the word. Details in the FAQs on my profile page.

U know some people are uncomfortable with that word. (Remember to reclaim you must be 1. part of the group referenced. 2. using it in a positive sense). I am proud of who i am, but sometimes I get tired of giving the 101 speech. If you have questions, I'm a good person to ask, since I'm hard to offend unless the person is being deliberately obnoxious.

According to http://cjonline.com/news/2011-10-10/poll-should-city-council-repeal-its-domestic-battery-ordinance#.TpQAvd6Ik8k the repeal is an attempt to get the local DA to charge the cases, since the city can't afford to. Right now he's refusing, but if they repeal the law he'd have to handle them.

If this is truly the way it is, then repealing the law seems to be the way to save lives.

I'd say properly funding the justice system would be an even better way to do it.

Very true. I just tried looking at it from the point of view of the city. They're not making battery legal, they're just trying to adapt to the mess the lack of funding they've been given puts them in.

But yeah, so many towns in the US are losing money in law enforcement. I remember reading in Macleans months ago about a county somewhere near Lake Erie that could afford only one or two police car(s) for their entire county. The police were seriously telling people to arm themselves for their own protection, since they wouldn't be able to respond quickly to an emergency.

I wish I could remember more details, but I threw that Macleans issue out. (A weekly magazine piles up too fast, have to throw them out regularly or I get buried.)

One of the reasons they want to make public sector unions illegal in Ohio is because the Police Union in Clevland is the only thing standing between them only have one cop to a car in the inner city and for some reason the police union is against dramatically increasing the risk of getting shot.

After all, tax cuts for corporations and billionaires is way more important than keeping people safe.

I'm not fan of the police, but we need them. I'm from Philly and I know what happens in areas the police no longer go. As much as I hate being pulled over every month or to for driving while poor, it's better than allowing people to rape, pillage, and murder at will
