* The bullies who drove Jamie Rodemeyer to suicide are now group heckling his sister at school events. I bet their mommas are proud.

* Speaking of ignorant assholes heckling people, did everyone see the Christian interrupting a speech by the president to accuse him of being the Antichrist? If this weren't such a widespread belief among Republican Christians it would be hilarious, but instead, it's just scary.

* Speaking of ignorant people in general, Michelle Bachmann just warned us all about the Hezbollah controlled missiles in Cuba. O.o When and how a Shiite political party in Lebanon seized control of the communist government of Cuba, she did not explain. You'd think an event that wildly improbable and bizarre would have been reported in the Media. This is a huge threat to Israeli targets in south America, according to her. I am confused as to when Israel invaded south America, but I really think this major improbable even would have also made the news. Apparently, Iran is now very close to Florida, which cataclysmic rearrangement of geography you would think would be mentioned in the media as a rearrangement of the earth's crust that dramatic would lead to massive loss of life. Yet no benefit concert. Remember, she is running for an office that involves international diplomacy and policy decisions, so being informed on world events is crucial.

* I took today off from the apartment hunt, as chances were low of them making a decision today and I really needed some sleep. I did both necessary errands and all but two phone calls from my list. hector woke me up once and a doctor's office woke me the other time. I still feel like I'm achieving fuck all because everything is like swimming upstream to achieve.

I hope the family sues the fuck out of the school, because it's the best way to force a recalcitrant school to protect kids instead of letting them be bullied. A lawsuit can turn a school culture around in a year or two. admin starts taking bullying seriously, which emboldens teachers of good will to step in as they no longer fear forr their jobs. This starts encouraging students of good will to stand behind kids being hassled, then more teachers who actually care about student safety apply to work there and suddenly marriage equality and telling off bigots becomes part of the student culture. It's not fast, but a couple years is faster than not at all.

It has the added benefit of spreading out of the district to it's neighbors, none of whom want to be sued either with funding so short. It creates spreading pockets of decency in often very conservative areas. It's why time is on our side in the US. More and more of the kids are going to school in civilized districts every year.

I remember recently when a classmate of mine got provoked into a fight and was suspended, some of my classmates talked to teachers so that they can speak up for him with the supervisors. It seems to have worked.

When I was teaching, and that sort of thing happened, I'd always have a private word with the administrator to make sure the instigators got what's coming to them. we can't let people take swings at the jerks no matter how provoked, but it's much fairer and better for long term discipline if we stomp the instigators so hard they never want to do it again.

It's part of why the at risk kids trusted me, I think. They knew I'd go to bat with admin for them when that;s what fairness required. It mean they were more willing to accept consequences without hassle when it was deserved, when they knew all discipline was fairly applied no matter who was involved and that I was rooting for them to get through any given day without hassles.
