* Today, Democrats caved on nearly everything except abolishing social security. Republicans rejected it out of hand presumably because abolishing social security is the goal of holding the economy hostage.

Did I not say last year that repeatedly caving to republican demands to harm the economy was going to lead to more economic hostage situations?

* Republicans are claiming that Obama wanting to raise the debt ceiling past the next Presidential election is "playing politics," pretending that doing this bullshit all over again in an election year would not politicize it even further. Sigh.

* I watched the President's speech in real time. I didn't here anything new. He is calling for people to speak up if they are in favor of a balanced approach, instead of making all cuts to social programs. Sigh.

* Watching the President walk away from the podium, made me think of Lorne's body language in the final shot of his final scene in Angel, when he was walking away both literally and figuratively. I'm not sure how much to read into that.

* John Boehner repeated the same hot air, pushing the same bad Bush era economic policies only more extreme and how that will magically produce different results than it has for the last decade. he also claims the Republican manufactured debt ceiling crisis is suddenly the President's fault and has nothing whatsoever to do with republican refusal to raise the debt ceiling unless we abolish social security to pay for more tax cuts for the rich.

* Really they both sounded like "blah, blah, blah" to me.

* The commentary made me want to stab people through the TV.

* I've been devouring Changeless and more Walking Dead graphic novels, mostly.

* Today, I don't seem to have sufficient manual dexterity to drink from a normal cup. I also realized I have three major areas to clean by Wednesday morning, not two. *facepalm* I did make my doctor's appointment and two out of three errands, plus swimming. The clerk actually cheered when I took "swim," instead of the delay sheet. I simply don't have time to keep codling this virus. Things need to get done.

* I continue to crave impossible foods. In this case, it is a loaf of bread I only ever had the once. It was in the Winter of... I think 1984, but it could have been a year either way. we were headed for Quebec city, but stopped in a little Quebecois village noted for it's harvesting of maple and it's artizen maple syrup, maple butter, etc.. I don't react well to real maple, though I tolerate it better than I do that nasty imitation stuff. I was induced to true the fresh, handmade maple butter on a slice of there fresh baked bread still warm for the oven. I liked it enough to eat the slice, which really says something about the quality. I didn't like the maple butter enough to actually purchase any, but I bought a whole loaf of the bread. This bread was heavenly; the perfect density and texture, neither too dry nor to moist, it had a rich flavour, that I've never quite seen duplicated. The smell, the taste, the feel in the mouth... perfection. This was the eidos of bread. I have no clue as to the name of the village. the only one who might have known was my father, long dead, and it's not likely I'll ever road trip Quebec again, even if I knew the name of the village where they made the eidos of bread and they were still making it all these decades later.

Impossible foods.

* The Norwegian death toll has been revised down to 76. It seems they counted some children twice. They are still searching the water and island for bodies. Reports of the shooters statements to police are conflicting, but it's pretty clear he's a right wing anti-Muslim Norwegian and it seems he targeted the children as a strike against the labour party children as a representative of the left. He is calling himself a Knight Templar on a crusade.

There is some worry that there may be more attacks, as he planned four attacks and two tons of fertilizer for bombs is unaccounted for.

* Apparently there has been a rise in anti-Semitic, anti-Buddhist, and anti-Muslim harassment in universities in Oslo, according to recent studies. I've been saying these sorts of things are often linked, in my commentary on events over here, but was unaware this was going on in Norway.

* Despite the shooter in Norway having been explicitly anti-Muslim, right wing commentators, Fox "News," and bloggers seem to be paining his as Muslim. To which I say WTF?? Using an anti-muslim mass murderer of children to whip up anti-muslim violence in the Us is a horrible, scary thing. Others, including Glen Beck, are going with a blame the victim approach. Combining victim blaming and Godwin's law? Really? REALLY? I think this is disgusting.

* What's up with lj, does anyone know?

* Warehouse 13: I never liked Myka and Pete. Pete particularly suffers from Castle syndrome, but they are both extremely annoying and likeable. They are now officially such horrible and abhorrent human beings, that I'm seriously giving up on watching despite my fondness for the other characters. I don't understand why the people writing this and promoting it seem to think these are the main characters when they are the most boring, two dimensional, and unpleasant characters on the show. They just behaved in a dangerously stupid and potentially deadly way, nearly killed the person rightly trying to stop them, and then not only refused to take responsibility, but blamed it on that person, and berated him as if he were at fault. Afterwards it was all, hur hur hur we got away with nearly killing, then abusing our coworker! Note that the character they do this to is is the only gay action hero type character besides Captain Jack Harkness on my TV. Any chance of character death this season? Please say yes, because I'm thinking I really can't watch this show again until they stop pretending Pete and Myka are heroes and not the morally bankrupt villains they pretty clearly are.

May I add, fuck you Warehouse 13.
