RIP Elisabeth Sladen, my beloved Sara Jane Smith, from cancer. First the Brig, now Sara Jane. She'll be missed.

Yeah, so very sad. I don't think I've felt an actor's loss so much as this one, and I've only known her from the recent shows. She was just always so *alive*.

I grew up with her as a Pertwee/Baker companion. I can't think of an actor's loss that hit me this hard, except maybe River Phoenix and that was so long ago, it's hard to compare.

It keeps startling me all over again each time I see something on it. I think part of why it's so startling is she seemed so vibrant and alive on SJA, and part of it is the way her character always symbolized decency and hope.
