Apr. 18th, 2011 08:45 pm* Senator Kyl has had the lies he told about Planned Parenthood and the ready availability of Pap smears at Walgreens removed from the congressional record. Likely on the grounds that he's being widely mocked.
* Why Are tiny Tea Party Protests big news, but larger counter protests and even larger pro-labour demonstrations aren't? Shouldn't the numbers determine prominence?
* Surprise! The Governor of Michigan is already invalidating the first town's local election. It's in Benton Harbor. Their government is being dissolved to allow the town's beloved waterside park to be "privatized" to be made into a private golf course for the rich, as the local government was protecting it. Bonus points as the folks being displaced to make way for the associated luxury development are African American. The fee to play golf on the cource will be half the average annual income in the town.
* In Kansas, they are requiring a birth certificate or passport to register to vote. This pretty much makes those registration drives at DMVs, parks, supermarkets, etc. impossible. It's basically designed to stop first time voters registering.
* Don't worry, the horrifically racist email circulating the GOP in Orange County is completely acceptable according to a Republican spokesman as the woman involved made two non-apologies and is a Christian, so calling the first family chimps and making pro-birther statements as a result of them being sub human according to her is okay. Good to know Christianity and a refusal to apologize makes racism okay in the eyes of other christian republicans. It doesn't feel okay to me, for some reason. Hmmm... what reason could that be....
* I have to admit to some schadenfreude watching Rick "frothy residue" Santorum squirm and waffle when asked outright by reporters as to why he was using the title of a poem by a left wing, gay, African American man for his virulently anti-gay, right wing candidacy for President. If I were a better person, I wouldn't find his deer in the head lights look so amusing.

Date: 2011-04-19 06:24 pm (UTC)Though it seems to me that it started when the news started to take the view that to be 'balanced' they had to present opposing viewpoints, as if all viewpoints are equally correct. The result being news programs that gave equal time to massive gay pride marches and the sullen guy standing there with a giant cross and a notice board about how we're all hell-bound.
This phenomenon was/is particularly amusing when it comes to global warming, since any program on that topic gives the same amount of time to someone who represents hundreds of climate scientists from around the world and one of the same six or ten people who happen to have PhD.s and work for American energy interests.
I suppose it's not too surprising to go from the stupid idea that every opinion is equal to the stupider idea that the stupidest opinion is the fair one.
