Cat Update
Feb. 4th, 2011 05:49 pmThanks to all of you who sent money to cover the check I just wrote to the vet.
Short version: the vet thinks the acuteness of the illness is a good sign. She's had fluids and I've got pills. She's still in obvious pain and intestinal distress. The pills should help with the pain even if they don't sort the pathogen. I'm going to need to get her special food, likely tomorrow, as my car is dad, dead, dead and Squirrel is out.
I got her to eat a couple mouthfuls of wet food which is also good, and the fluids seem to be perking her up enough for her to be appropriately cranky.
If she gets worse, instead of better, I'll take her back for more tests.
The car died for good and ever on the way back. They were kind enough to bump us up the ewait list so it was only an your. My poor brave girl sat there, stoically holding it in and rubbing her head against my hand now and then for comfort. She couldn't hold it in anymore right after I'd settled her into the cab, so the ride home must have been hell for her between the pain and the mess.
The other cats have been doing that hovering about concerned thing, but are not pestering her. They still obey her glare when she wants to be left alone. As I write this, she's mesting behind my bedroom door next to the big fish tank. It's a good protected location, close to the litter box and in firmly held senior beastie territory. I'm going to put some mesting matiel in there for her in a few minutes and I'm planning to check on her frequently. My feeling is, all her orifices have been probed, she's in pain, feverish, and feeling generally crappy, and hiding in a secure dark place is exactly what she needs right now.
