Feb. 3rd, 2011 03:54 am* Does anyone know which is worse for one: honey or agave nectar?
* Today pretty much sucked. I'm still sick. My car started to die on the way to pay rent. I spent the dentist money and my med money on putting the car back together enough to finish. I think something is profoundly wrong with it, as it now has trouble accelerating and there is a rattle in the undercarriage. Yet another thing to add to the list of things needing sorting out when there is money. The pain is astonishing. I did manage to get home with groceries, though I didn't bring back a bunch of things needed to keep the household running and missed a few key errands, what with being camped at the garage. I was petting the cats surrounded by grocery bags when neighbor lady came by. She is really doing better, and even noticed I could barely walk. I let her use the phone and gave her more candles and ramen. I need to remember to get candles too. Normally, I'd give her more food, but I simply couldn't deal with it, what with the having to cling to furniture to stay upright and the need to unpack groceries and make some sort of dinner. Lately, I've been keeping foods she'll eat up front where I can easily grab them for her, but I simply had nothing prepared. I know she'll lonely and wants to chat, but I can't be social when I hurt this much. I just wanted her to go so I could eat and take my meds. I know, a rotten thing to do when I'm literally surrounded by a month's groceries when she arrived.
One of the new fish is dead; Hector is still annoying, but better today.

* Every time I here news of the Anthrax/Slayer/Megadeth/Metallica tour, I get all wistful. I know damned well, I couldn't physically handle going to the concert even if I had that kind of money, but it's my four favorite metal bands and I still can't get over how cool it is them touring together.
* Lewis Black is playing my town and I can't afford to go either. Sigh. I know, I know, if I had the money I'd just blow it on things like, shampoo, dish washing fluid, cat food, car repairs, etc..
* Y'all may have noticed that while I've been doing little summaries of events in Egypt, I haven't been saying what we should do. That's because I can't see our intervention on either side doing anyone any good in the long run. This needs delicate handling both because of conditions in Egypt and our relationships with countries throughout the Middle East. I don't see a winning scenario, though I do see a lot of ways we can mess things up worse there. Hence my silence. This is why you don't see me weighing in on North Korea much also.

Date: 2011-02-03 06:01 pm (UTC)I will have more free time next week, so if you ever need me to pick anything up for you I can do that.

Date: 2011-02-03 07:03 pm (UTC)Actually, the other problem is that we'd have to know which honey. Different honeys have different ratios of glucose and fructose.
It also depends on 'you'. Someone with diabetes or a bee allergy (or certain floral allergies) is going to have a harder time with some honeys.
And there seems to be a bunch of conflicting research on the agave syrup, which may also depend on which kind you're using and how much of it you're using.

Date: 2011-02-03 08:05 pm (UTC)Honey may also not be good for vegetarians. I have heard that there can be bee parts in honey. For diabetes, what I've heard when I talked to people with it is that the type of sugar doesn't matter so much as just limiting all sugars. (But then if the glycemic index is used to figure out which foods are best for diabetic people, I would assume that there is a difference people would need to know about.)
I would probably have a better answer if I had a need to strictly control my sugar intake, but the headache all the research gives me made me give up.

Date: 2011-02-04 02:52 am (UTC)Basically, lower glycemic index is a plus. Allergies aren't really an issue, and I refuse to stress about insect parts. Agave nectar doesn't make that weird smell tequila does metabolizing. I'm happy with both the taste of honey and agave.
