* I keep thinking about how so many people say in regards to Doctor Who, so and so is "My Doctor." I don't have one, any more than I have a Bond. I'm bad at that kind of thinking, I think, like preferring to have a bunch of different friends I enjoy in different ways. I can give a list of doctors I enjoyed more than some of the others and say why, but i can't rank say 4 and Ten or 5 and 9 compared to each other. I was never any good at number ranking friends and lovers either. It's the same problem. This is not any kind of attack on people who can pick one, just an observation of why I find it personally baffling. It's one of those bits of ordinary human behavior that I have had explained to me intellectually, and can learn to anticipate, like sexual jealousy or Coulrophobia, without ever feeling on a gut level or really grasping beyond the "this is something normal people feel so there are good odds some people in my social group feel them" level.
No wonder I like my Doctors just a little bit alien.

Basically: a Christian woman touched the drinking vessel of an Islamic coworker. The resulting dispute escalated to the point where she was accused of blasphemy and sentenced to death. The governor came out against the death penalty for blasphemy. He was also a champion of women's rights.

* I'm experiencing a lot of physical inconvenience and am also going to have to sleep in the living room for UPS tomorrow, so I'm all hidey. Hidey is better than stabby, so that's why I'm hard to catch.
* Rest in Peace, Pete Postlethwaite. he's been in more things than one can easily list, though seldom in the spotlight: http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/oscar-nominee-pete-postlethwaite-has-died-at-the-age-of-64?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ropeofsilicon%2Fheadlines+%28RopeofSilicon%3A+Latest+Headlines%29&utm_content=LiveJournal

Date: 2011-01-05 11:31 am (UTC)And said Doctor was Tom Baker, and I was on the minus side of 10 years old.
I really give Tom points for being confronted with a total fanboy and steering me in the direction of 'yeah- they're ALSO awesome'.
