gwydion: Vlad and Niran kissing (Kiss)

* Florida Election results: Romney 47%, Gingrich 32%, Santorum 13%, Paul 7%.

* The Senate vote on marriage equality in Washington state is at Wednesday at 1:00PM. If you live in Washington and you get this in time, please contact your state Senator and beg zim to do the right thing. My Senator is Erikson and I made my call.

* A Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall, R-13th, wants you to know that "disabled children are God’s punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy." There are so many things wrong with that, that I can't figure out where to start. With "Fuck you, Douchebag," maybe. Not only is this logically and provably untrue as there are women who had no abortions by have disabled children, and women who had abortions who's children are able bodied, but all these Christian claims that disability is a sign of the wrath of god is incredibly toxic to those of us with disabilities and makes it even harder for folks to get accommodation and decent health care.

* Need I tell y'all all the reasons why this trend of cis straight women throwing bachelorette parties at gay bars is not okay? Let's start with, "Let's rub your noses in the fact that you can't legally marry and we can while objectifying you in your safe space!" for starters. Asshats!

* The fundamental problem with this Republican ideal of a "businessman" for president, is that the sort of major corporations they means are run to make a handful of already rich men richer and too bad if their practices harm the environment, the consumers, or workers. That is not the intended purpose of government, though it is often miss run that way. *cough Bush/CheneyHaliburton cough* No, ideally, the purpose of government is not too make a handful of already rich people richer and damn the consequences to everyone else, but for the public good. That means, making sure the rivers, lakes, and farmland aren't poisoned by corporate dumping of waste. That means tax policies that make it possible for folks who work to do well because that helps the economy as a whole. That means a living wage, that means building infrastructure that helps small businesses and actual humans as well as the big corporations. That means investing in human capital through education all the way from head start through grad school. That means science and technology grants that propel us towards a prosperous future. That means folks not starving or prone to epidemic disease because they are denied any health care for the crime of not being born rich. That means long term resource management, instead of stripping every thing right now to help this years profit margin. Yes, government is never ideal, but I do not see why pushing it ever further into the vulture capitalism model and away from the ideal of public good makes any sense at all except to the handful of people so rich it doesn't matter if the economy and the country collapses.

* I really need a haircut, but it's not happening until folks are paid back. It's that awkward length where the bangs are long enough to get in my eyes and the back is edging towards mullet. There is to be an IRA disbursal in my near future and SSI comes Friday, and hopefully that will let me sort out residual carry over bills from the move and February bills. I hope there will be a little extra, but I'm not holding my breath. I have know idea what my banker considers "a small amount," which is part of the problem.

* Yesterday I did the more physically demanding part of retrenching my room and sorted a bunch of stuff out in the kitchen, despite the shortage of spoons. I did not make the cookies, alas. (I bake a lot in Winter. It's a growing up in snow country thing.) Today I woke up in the middle of my sleep cycle to deal with a startling amount of cat vomit in my bed. My the time I'd leaned myself up, medicated and fed Hector, stripped the bed, etc. it was very hard to get back to sleep. I did manage finally, but ugh. I made a list of annoying phone calls, caught the election results, and carried a pack full of books to the library drop. Not much was left in the way of spoons by then. I'm triple booked on Thursday, and it's going to be exhausting. There is something else needing doing either tomorrow or Friday that's also exhausting and I'm trying to decide if I should rest up tomorrow or get the thing over with. Ugh.

* I really ought to do an ebay pass soon, but it's a hassle as our internet still isn't properly sorted. I did find the long cord over the weekend and I can now have the phone in my room when I sleep, rather than stumble blind through the moving feline obstacle course.

* I misheard the phrase, "block the Straight with mines," as "block the Straight with mimes." Definitely not the same thing, though I like imagining thousands of them erecting an invisible wall.

* Just because the execrable Reno 911 has gay characters does not make it a positive depiction. I wish people would stop pretending it was.

* "On “Forgetting” to Have Babies:" http://reassignedtime.wordpress.com/2012/01/24/on-forgetting-to-have-babies/

"Reproductive choice for women isn’t only about freedom from having a kid (the right to legal, safe abortion) nor is it only or also about the freedom to have a kid with the aid of technology (egg-freezing, sperm donation, other reproductive technologies). If we see it that way, women are still defined through and by reproduction. Reproductive choice, for me, should result in a world in which women are people outside of their reproductive refusal or potential. Reproductive choice should mean that I don’t have to be either a “mother” or “child-free.” Setting it up that way means that I’m still only the sum total of my uterus – whether I’ve “chosen” to use my uterus to house a human or whether I’ve “chosen” (or by virtue of health issues had to) to keep my uterus empty."

* It amuses me that on the BPAL board, they generally refer to that time of the month as "Shark Week."
