Sep. 4th, 2010 02:00 am* My mother is out of the hospital. They tried a new antibiotic and it's really helping. She's sounding stronger than she has in a year. It's a repreive, not a cure, but even a month of her feeling better is a good thing.
* I'm warn out from errands again, but things are mostly sorted.
* Why are people still paying money to see Andrew Dice Clay? I'd pay money Not to see him.

* So I watched Citizen Kane. I'm not anything close to a film student, but I've watched a lot of films from that period and I can see how innovative it is is it's design, cinematography, editing, etc.. I can see all kinds of ways it's still influencing film making. It's beautifully shot, to the pint i wish i could see it on the big screen so I could get the full effect of the multi-layered effects. The acting is excellent. It's still not my sort of thing and I'm not convinced it's the best film ever made despite all the claims it is. There is a difference between well made/innovative/influential and all around best, if that makes sense. I certainly does belong on important films lists, and despite some things that were a squidge dated, it stands the test of time, but it's not enough for me in a variety of hard to put into words ways. I'm glad it wasn't destroyed; I'm sorry it destroyed Orson wells and Marian Davies.

Date: 2010-09-04 09:03 pm (UTC)I have a lot of regard for KANE, and for Welles as a filmmaker, and I'd put it in my Top Five Best Films Ever, but it's not even in the top 20 of Favorite Movies (a whole different category, admittedly, but that should show that its excellence by itself doesn't result in a strong affinity).
The best film I've ever seen: hands down, it's APOCALYPSE NOW. For every reason that I admire CITIZEN KANE, and a few more. Also, it's somewhere in my Top Five Favorite Movies, as well, so there's that.

She just needs to hang on until January to get her full retirement benefits and she's scared she won't make it. She's super part time already (a couple hours a day several days a week) and out of banked sick days.
