* Mache update (9PM): I found a claw. You live with cats you find the occasional claw or whisker, but this claw was broken off further up the shaft than the ones one usually finds. There was a particular loud and viscous fight while I was sleeping a few hours before I realized she was injured. This claw I found was next to her head on the pillow where she's mesting. It hadn't been there at the previous cat check, less than an hour previous, and she's now moving better, though still uncomfortable. I'm hoping that this was the issue with the paw, and not something more serious. Fingers crossed, folks.

* The weirdest thing about living in a college housing neighborhood and sharing, buses, stores, etc. with college kids is how little change there has been in college student fashion in 20 years. I expected them to be, I don't know... hipper? More flamboyant? You know, like I was back in the day, or my friends were. The fashion differences are all when we stop in front of the big high school downtown at let off time and kids get on in hipster chic and ironic back packs.

* It looks like the mostly whitewashed live action version of Akira is nixed. Yay! I'm not convinced we needed a live action version in the first place, but I might have been willing to give it a shot with the right casting. The right casting would be rather the opposite of adult white people playing Japanese teenagers. Given the relationship between Akira as a narrative and a work of art, and our dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, I can only think folks looking to cast the likes of Zach Efron in a role so specifically Japanese, are not the sort of folks to be trusted with telling this story, especially given it's importance to so many people. I am not even convinced they should be trusted with a narrative as simple as "See spot run."

* I am sorry I watched season 6 of Oz. There were some powerful things in there, like the fluffernutter sequence with the O'Reilly brothers, but I think I would have been happier not knowing how most of the stories ended.

BTW, want to see a Londoner doing a bang on perfect American accent? I wholly endorse Eamonn Walker playing Kareem Said (both the accent and the performance in general.) Seriously, I never would have spotted him as not born here. I know we've talked about this before, both bad American accents and bad British ones. I just wanted to point out a rare example of someone doing it right.
