* Mitt Romney wants you all to know "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me." O.o

* Buddy Roemer, the sanest Republican candidate in the race is now ahead of Rick Perry in New Hampshire, having surged to a whopping 3%. Yes, that is how far Rick Perry has dropped. Huntsman, the second sanest just broke into double digits. O.o

* It is still freaking me out that banning birth control is now a mainstream Republican position. It's the 21st century, wtf!!! Why are republican women voting for these guys knowing they will ban the pill? This was my Mother's question, who only finally left the party over the racism in the last presidential election. A couple of months before she died, she asked me where the Republican women were, why they weren't up in arms, why they weren't protesting and running for office to stop this crap. I had no real answer for her, as outside of Megan Mccain and a hand full of brave women in state offices in places like Wyoming, there is silence or agreement, this despite a 60-70% approval rating for the pill among Republican women.

* I meant to get out in early afternoon and do a bunch of key downtown errands. Then I lost two hours of sleep to that thing where every time I started to drift off, the phone would ring yet again. Add this to my right hip not cooperating, I opted for an extra hour and a half of sleep, plus an hour and a half of coaxing my leg into making the trip. I did get in under the wire on the time sensitive thing and then made a brutal slog to the library. I was able to catch god buses back, but it was very time consuming and painful. As a result there's a number of computer things not getting finished tonight. Tomorrow Greenwick comes, so likely things I've promised various people aren't getting finished until later in the week. I'm sorry.

* Mache and the Butt finally found a way to share the pettin throne. It only works because the Butt was stretched at the right angle on the left end, and because they are willing to cuddle. (The issue is the new pettin throne is long and thin, and they are both kitties of substance.)

* I've been thinking about what I mean when I say "LGB content is matter of fact" or "smoothly handled" and why it's important to me. I don't just mean that the content is smoothly integrated with the action and narrative flow, but I realized I'm also implying that there is more to the characters than orientation. When I say that about a piece of writing, it means that not only the author is being matter of fact and has fleshed out characters, but that they aren't always walking around with the I'm gay sign, as is the case in clumsier writing. I'm utting this badly. Gah! Basically, I've talking about narrative voice, characterization, and flow of action in short hand, if that makes sense.

* Things about Ballet fascinate me still, all these years after I quit dancing. Maybe I'm weird, but I wasn't in it for the idea of ballet, but because I loved how it made me feel, even when it hurt like hell, even the bits that are supposed to be boring like warm ups and bar work. I loved stretching every single muscle, of pushing my limits, of the precision and control. I loved working always at the edge of what my body could do. I loved the loose limbed tiredness after a really good practice. I knew it was a cannibal art form. I knew my build was wrong for doing it for a living. It didn't matter. I loved everything but the politics. I quit when we moved and the only school nearby was hugely expensive and nowhere near as good and I couldn't ask my parents to pay that much for a half hour of dance a week. It didn't meant I stopped loving it, just that I had to quit a few years sooner than I thought I would.

This review fascinates me in all the complexity of thought and response to a book about ballet: http://slatebreakers.com/2012/01/09/review-bunheads-by-sophie-flack/#more-889

* I wish people would stop obsessing over the contents of Kate Middleton's womb. For fucks sake people, they haven't been married a year.
