* I want to do a shout out to Blue Cab company. I really needed more groceries, and I decided to bite the bullet for a cab. Blue cab split off from yellow cab because Yellow cab company was being a dick about things like folks needing short distances and prioritizing folks in rich areas of town over the rest of us. Blue cab is very PNW hippy. They are cheaper. They are egalitarian. They are PNW informal and friendly (expertly long hair and facial hair if the driver is a dude). They give you free miles if they are significantly later than they said they'd be. (I've had this twice). The dude was very cool about my limited mobility just generally, and offered to carry the groceries down to my place without any expectations of extra tip given my obvious poverty. (I gave him extra anyway). Blue cab is consistently like that.

* Mache has fully embarrassed the new pettin throne and has monopolized it two nights in a row now, often capturing one or more of my limbs in the bargain. It's Winter and she's arthritic, so really, she spends most of her time napping in one comfy spot or another.

* The Seattle station is doing a run of Pertwee Doctor Who's, as I mentioned before. Today we got to the bit in the Silurian story where they have infected the humans with a deadly virus. Seeing it now as an adult, I can't help but be aware of the class aspects. First the university blokes with the posh accents get a bunch of miners injured or killed. Now a pompous government official, who was too important and locked into his political agenda to listen to scientists, has gone and infected and thus killed a whole bunch of innocent working class folk, like a ticket collector, a cabbie, etc..

This part is completely believable. After all, it was only a couple of years ago that the CDC had to pull a businessman off a New York plane bound for Paris. He had antibiotic resistant TB, you see and was to rich, privileged, and important to follow medical directions or respect quarantine. Think about him breathing bacilli during the whole transatlantic flight into the recirculated air of the cabin, infecting everyone from grandparents to babies, from first class passengers, to folks in the back packed in the back like sardines to the cabin stewards. It's really nice for the rich man that he could afford the best medical car, but what happens to a contagious air host/ess? How will ze make a living? Pay for meds? What happens to the very young and very old passengers who can't survive such a serious illness and years of harsh medication? Too bad for all of them, a rich white man was too important to wait until he was healthy enough to travel so ordinary people should have to hae their lives unravel and possibly die. I'm glad the CDC forcably quarantined his ass despite threats of lawsuit.

I respect quarantine. I hope you all do to.
