* Happy New Year, y'all! Let's hope 2012 will be less brutal.

* The governor of Virginia is so set on disenfranchising large numbers of citizens in Virginia he's vowed to take it all the way to the Supreme Court.

* I was exhausted from all that gimping about, so I went to bed early last night. It's not great today either, every joint, every joining of my spine from the base of my skull to my pelvis is protesting. Anyway, as a result of early bed time, I missed a dose. I made a start a more unpacking, but had to lie down and wait for my drugs to kick in. I did make inroads on organizing my desk later. (This is one of the places things got dumped which got unpacked before they had a permanent home to go to.)

LM's found a spot she likes in my room, so the whole clowder sleeps in there with me now. I'm very much in favor of this, since it's good for group unity and smoothing the social edges.

* I just realized I forgot to give Greenwick his prezzie again. *facepalm*

* Mephron has an interesting comment about Schlock Mercenaries gender swap thing I mentioned a couple days ago: http://gwydion.dreamwidth.org/150530.html#comments

* BPAL's dropped a shunga themed New Year's scent. It looks lovely, but I don't take to chamomile on my skin. If nothing else, the art is fascinating. (NWS what with the giant testicle): http://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/limited.html

* After years of wishing for a chance to see it, I finally got to watch Black Sheep. Thoughts: 1. I kept thinking of that time Karjack got attacked by sheep in Wales. 2. I never thought I'd write this sentence, but "That was an excellent strategic deployment of haggis." 3. I wish I could see a "making of." I wish I knew what treats they used to get the sheep to do those things. 4. The shots of sheep standing about over menacing music was a very clever low budget, but surprisingly effective horror tactic. 5. Bwahahahahaha!

* I've started Buffalo Tree, which is really intense. It took a few pages to get my head aroubd the language, as some of the slang means different things than what I'm used to them meaning, but once I got a handle on it, the prose really blew me away. This is one of those situations where the narrative voice is key to the impact of the story, and Mr. Rapp is really pulling it off. I only had time for about the first third, so I can't give any sort of final verdict, but so far it is very powerful.

* This is Anderson Cooper's obituary for the incredibly brave Basil Al-Sayid who was shot while filming a protest in Syria: http://cnn.com/video/?/video/world/2011/12/31/ac-recorded-own-death.cnn
