* 35 more people were murdered by the Syrian government today.

* There is worry that Iraq may devolve into Civil War, and that Saudi Arabia and Iran will move in to back their factions, Saudi Arabia being Sunni and Iran being Shiite. Let us all hope it doesn't come to that.

* Under extreme pressure from old school Republicans to pass the bill he agreed to, John Boehner appealed to the White house for more concessions. The President refused, having already caved on the 1.9% surcharge on income over a million dollars in a year to pay for it and on it being a year long deal. John Boehner, having spent the last year fighting to protect the extremely wealthy from tiny tax increases at the expense of the middle class, realized raising taxes on the middle class might look bad in an election year. The House passed the unemployment insurance and pay roll tax cut extension after all.

They are now pretending that instead of Republicans demanding it only be two months instead of a year was somehow the Democrats fault. After all, the Democrats caved so they should bear the blaim rather than the people who demanded that be the case, right?

* Ron Paul, who originally used to stand behind his racist comments a decade ago, is now pretending he didn't write them. No apology or acknowledging that this bullshit is foul, or that telling people how to get away with shooting black youths is seriously fucked up an utterly obscene. Eeeew!

* It turned out Greenwick could only stay half an hour, so we hung some things, most importantly the big hangings in the bedroom. I managed to lose his present. *facepalm* There is now pie and a GC BPAL I'm into. Hector woke pu in a mood and proceeded to knock things over and start fights, even before Greenwick got here. Things calmed down once I dispensed the goosh. The list of things needing doing expands exponentially. I've been moving things around, trying different configurations. I ended up spending more than an hour making a dinner worthy of the pie. Mmmm.... protein.

The pie was excellent, by the way. Perfect crust, subtly and deliciously spiced blackberries. Omnomnom. As someone not particularly good at fruit pie, I am extra impressed by people who are.

* Amusing ad juxtaposition: 1. Ad warning drunk drivers they will get caught featuring a group of good looking young men. 2. Ad for kettle one shot nearly identically with guys so similar I thought it was the same commercial for several seconds. Dont drink! Drink this!

* I kept thinking Juan One's voice on Soap was hauntingly familiar. (They show it an hour Sundays so I've been watching them, mostly out of nostalgia. Trust me, I'm aware of all the ways it's problematic from a modern perspective, but it was ground breaking for 1977. Trust me on this.) Anyway, the actor who was Juan One back then is playing Rossi on Criminal Minds now. O.o I knew he was familiar, but I did not see that coming.
