* Kim Jong Il has died. It remains to be seen what will happen in North Korea now. I wish the people trapped in that country well, but I fear the power struggle among those with the most won't turn out well for ordinary folk.

A British Toy store decides to stop gender segragatimg toys and organize more ratuionally by interest.

At the library Saturday, I checked out a family including a young boy who wanted a bunch of dinosaur books. He said, "Put the boy books /here/" and indicated a place on the counter where I was to stack his stuff, versus his sisters' stuff.

I said, "I don't see any books just for boys. Girls can read about dinosaurs and sharks too, right?" and then his mom jumped in and beat the horse until it was dead, and the whole thing just really confused him, because those other books were... PINK and about things like... BARBIE and he'd never want to read GIRL books and clearly his were BOY books, no matter how you sliced it.

But I tried. :) I count that for something.
