* I was very moved by former New York Governor Patterson's remarks on marriage Equality in new york and his pride in his state because of it, last night.

* "Drunk Florida Man Tries to Use Taco as I.D.:" http://blogs.laweekly.com/squidink/2011/10/drunk_florida_man_taco_identification.php

I know it looks funny from a distance, but when I worked Burger king late night as a teen, this sort of thing was a real problem. We once had a guy pass out. His foot fell off the brake and his car started rolling inexorably toward the pass through supports. Luckily, the car in front of him had pulled out and the machine guy was taking the garbage out and was able to steer the car to safety while jogging along outside and screaming at the guy to wake up. someone could have been really hurt. (Our policy was to quietly call the cops and give them the license number and trajectory of the drunk drivers, as it was generally better to catch them in motion for getting them off the road long term, and traffic was very light after midnight, and the cops were parked close after we closed, up at the Dunkin donuts. We got a lot of drunks late night and many of them were violent. Yes, the taco was funny, but the drunk driving part, not even a little).

* The cats are squabbling a lot as all the territories are mixed up and no one is sure who owns which mest and what rules apply where, poor things.

* I had an offer of free travel to Orycon previously, though I don't know if it's still open. I just got an offer of a place to stay Friday and Saturday. I'm now trying to connect my previous ride and my accommodations up to see if it's possible to go after all. I could live on cup of soups and nuts, potentially, though I find that's bad for morale. Still, I'd be eating about the same here. I don't know if it'll work out, and I would need to spend no money at all while there. It also feels sort of assholish to be doing something fun in the midst of all this crisis, even if I am going as a mooch on the charity of others.

So I don't know what's going on with me and Orycon. When I know what's up, I'll let y'all know.

It is really hard for me to accept charity and gifts I can't return, so this has all been a rather serious internal struggle. I am still stunned be the kindness of so many of you, and I have no idea how I can properly thank you all for what you've done. So much of this has been timing, too much at once to properly absorb, tiny windows of opportunity. Not enough resources at the right time and likely an embarrassment of them equally badly timed.

* Today I did get reasonable sleep, though I wasted a lot of time being too tired to read or do anything useful, and not able to sleep. I simply need some rest, I think. My goals this weekend involve sorting out the mess we made in the kitchen last night. (We piled stuff on counters and I need to clear them to cook, autoclaving, even more laundry, animal maintenance, and various small bits of sorting and cleaning. I'm just way too short on spoons for anything bigger.

* In my head, the new place is already home, and I already want to be there, not here.

* I am not scared of flying. I actually love going up in small planes in particular. No, when I travel, I'm scared TSA will take exception to my transness and no fly me mid trip, having to go more than 12 hours without food and arthritis meds (as happened last month), or things like what happened to this poor woman: http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/11/04/california-woman-unable-to-pay-bag-fees-stuck-in-airport-for-eight-days/

That nearly happened to me once. There were no baggage fees going east, but there were going West, and I was very close to not having enough.

Did I mention I got body scanned in Philly and Boston this last trip? (Bellingham doesn't have a scanner.) They do not give you any choice, nor do they tell you if it's a newer no genitals model or the old "let's put your bits on the internet" model. The scanners were of different design, so I'm betting one of each. I suppose it's faster than the usual testing my shoes for bomb making, extra pat down, and pawing through my meds bag in the hopes of something recreational. My wariness of TSA is fairly rational, given that every time I fly I get "randomly" selected for extra screening, despite never having caused a problem and surrendering my crutch for x-ray.

I honestly hope I never have to leave the west coast again.

* Re Kelly Osbourne: I've said this about any number of celebrities and politicians. I get stressed out, I do get snappish, but I've never once popped out with a transphopbic rant or as Mr. Edwards did in the last democratic Presidential Primary, some wildly misogynistic statement. Get me blind drunk, and I will say silly things, over explain, and mostly sit still and try to get friends to tell amusing stories. There is no amount of alcohol you can put into my system that would result in a Mel Gibsonesque anti-Semitic rant. Things like alcohol and stress lower filters and inhibitions; they do not change a person's fundamental character. If you don't go around with tons of ugly bigoted shit in your head, stress and alcohol are unlikely to suddenly unleash them.

I'm not saint, nor am I perfect. I fuck up now and then, but I make an effort to improve and learn when I do fuck up. I do my best not to lug around the kind of massive baggage that leads to things like Ms. Osbourne's rant, and I think it is a noble pursuit to try to identify such things in oneself whenever one can sop as to fix it as much as one can. I hope she decides in future to do the same.

* As it turns out, I'm not the only one who thinks so: http://transgriot.blogspot.com/2011/11/if-youre-bigot-when-youre-angry-youre.html

* My favorite response to Anne Coulter's claim that "Our blacks are better than your blacks," comes from Whoopi Goldberg on the Veiw: "I didn't know we were anybody's blacks! I mean, my god! I thought I was free but dammit, I found out again, somebody's got my behind!"

* I hope y'all set your clocks back if you live in the US.
