gwydion: Vlad and Niran kissing (Kiss)

* As I write this, they've added tornado warnings for North Carolina and Virginia. None had been spotted yet, but parts of the storm are spinning, which is a precondition. It's looking like they expect heavy rains and flooding in the Philadelphia area, but the worst of the storm is expected to pass over new jersey rather than Pennsylvania. They do have a similar planned public transit shut down to the one they are doing for New york. Amtrak is shutting down for the north east corridor.

* Right wing pundits and religious figures too numerous to list are already blaming the earthquake and hurricane on either Obama and/or gays. How Obama (or gays) can personally make the earth move I'm afraid to speculate, but this attribution of superpowers to Obama and LGBT folk seems to me a fascinating delusion. I am wondering what psychiatrists make of the psychology of it. (New readers, I have over the years documented a list of occasions on which FOX News, republican politicians, and other right wing figures have accused Obama of performing acts that would require a time machine and super powers. I refer to this as time traveling Obama news. there is no time travel involved here, but it would require some serious super powers. From what I can tell, according to the folks at FOX "News," Obama has all the attributes of the doctor, Super Man, Storm, and professor Xavier all rolled into one. Given what they attribute to him, he may in fact be God. I've never seen any of his supporters claim that. I'm not being ingenuous when I say that the psychology of this fascinates me. For example, during the election, he was accused of traveling back in time almost a hundred years to use his mind control powers to force the people of Ohio to put a big "O" on the state flag in honor of his 21st century ascendancy. No, they did not actually say time travel or mind control, but how else could he have made the white folks in power in Ohio way back then to make a flag in honor of a black man who wouldn't be born for decades. There was no explanation and they did keep reporting it so... Yeah. So now he makes the earth move and can create storms with his mind.)

* Arizona is suing to repeal the 1962 Voter's Rights Act, which prevents discrimination at the polls, on the grounds it's archaic. I mean, it's not like we need to prevent the large scale disenfranchisement of people of colour, right? I mean Arizona should totally have the right to prevent Latino citizens from having the vote, right? Things like this make me incredibly stabby. Given the recent history of discriminatory laws like the odious papers please" law in Arizona, it's clear they need Federal oversight and the Voter's Rights Act more than ever. I know dragging this country back to the 1850's is a popular republican idea, but that scares the shit out of me.

* Macaulay Culkin is 30. Feeling old yet?

I still think a temporary stay that can be revoked at anytime is not enough. We need full marriage equality and comprehensive immigration reform like the dream Act. Still, something is better than nothing.
