* My glasses broke back in April. I tried gluing them together, but it wouldn’t hold and they were giving me a headache from the wobbles, so i reverted to the previous, non-bifocal pair, which was annoying, but the top prescription was very close, so I could do things like drive and watch TV, which matters. It took a few weeks for an optometrist opening.

I didn't get to bed until noon and the Millennial came sat three, so I am a mess, but today was super productive.

OMG, though, they dramatically improved vision coverage since last time! They more than doubled the frame allowance, so instead of crappy ones that break in a year that must be constantly repaired, we can get really nice sturdy ones and they added a bunch of discounts for things that were wholly out of pocket like bifocals. I couldn't do progressive lenses as they more than doubled total cost, but I got everything else for less than I paid last time for bare minimum I could get away with. (I need bifocals like whoa, and they do not make my prescription without doing the ultra light style, so that was always out of pocket and I usually buy scratch resistance because at my level of clumsy it’s counter productive not too.)

They had a trainee so two very excited ladies helped me pick frames. (They liked my polish and wanted to talk me into these kicky very Zoomer ones, but I'm like orange is no good. here's why, and I put my hand next to the frames and they visibly winces at what it did to my completion. we are getting black with lapis blue pointings. These may be the cutest glasses I've ever owned. (I had contacts all through my teens to whenever in my thirties I stopped being able to afford them).

Apparently, my eyes no longer align right and are just sort of doing their own thing, so add “prism” to astigmatism. Sigh.

I am used to glasses being 2-3 weeks to a month at the outside to replace as they have to special order materials because fucked up eyes. They were all apologetic about it being two.

I am really excited for these glasses. When i first started getting Medicaid glasses they had six ugly styles in cheap frames that broke about a year in. Medicare advantage eventually switched from government produce frames to a very low frame allowance that was usually the eight cheapest frames in the store which also broke a year in and my optometrist while in network for exams was out of network for frames so it was a whole other drama going to the one store in town that was in network. apparently they are back in network again, so I could just get them there which was also a massive help.

So in two weeks I’ll be able to read ingredient lists on boxes again without taking off my glasses and holding them right up to my face.

Both Caregiver Millennial and I were wiped so I’m like want to go home after errands? And he’s like “I’ll do dishes after putting away groceries,” so he went home. I’ll be going to bed super early once I’m done some necessary things.

The poor thing asked me a small question about the British monarchy and made a comment about bathing culture that lend to me giving the poor guy a wide ranging lecture on English parliamentary development, the constitutional monarchy, and medieval-early modern western European comparative attitudes around sex work and bathing....

I am a monster, but I ramble when I’m tired. Or you ask history questions. Or encourage me to roast the house of Hanover/Windsor

* My plan for the stimulus went all to hell. I had intended to blow 2-3 hunfdred on things like food and gardening stuff and things needed around the house, plus a special treat for me. The rest I was going to use to get ahead on bills and hopefully save for either air conditioning in the common area or the next emergency.

Ha!

Rupert Laptop died and needed replacing, poor fellow. (This was one of the emergencies I was expecting and Aidan laptop is so much brighter and faster than poor Rupert who tried his best. It was going to happen eventually, and best it happen when i was in funds). The car needed repairs. (The car is ancient and this was one of the three big emergencies I was imagining). I rather desperately needed more bedding, as the padded liner gave up the ghost and I was on emergency back up bedding that interfered with sleep. I may have gone a little berserk with garden things. One thing after another happened. Things broke or ran out or.... The glasses were also on my list of expected emergencies. Let's hope the TV (second hand and likely even older than my car) survives, as the glasses ate the last of the cushion from the stimulus.

* I really appreciate that Debris made me hate the alternate timelines almost as much as the protagonists do.
