* It is still way too hot, but the area the dead fan covered (bathroom, kitchen) is no longer an oven where I struggle to breath if I need to pee in the afternoon, so that's something. It's still not really safe for me to be out and about until after sundown. (Why do I need three fans, you might ask. We were only allowed one window air conditioner and only in the room of the secondary bedroom, which is why Squirrel got his own bathroom. My air conditioner is aging and week and needs a fan as a force multiplier to keep the temperature cool enough for me to do things like sleep or function in this kind of heat. The second fan lives in the living room window for obvious reasons, and is strong enough to move air through the living room and my desk array behind the sofa. The third fan mostly lived in the bathroom and blew out into the kitchen. Without it, things happen like my towel and bath mat not being able to dry out, and trips to the bathroom or to get water become torture in the afternoon. I'm not being decadent here. This is a health and safety issue. Everything molds in this climate and as mentioned before, heat stroke can kill.)
The cats are drinking lots of water and sticking to cooler areas in the worst heat. I still worry.
The caregiver millennial came buy to do some basic animal and plant maintenance and to chop up some vegetables and apples for me to use later, which was kind. Tavy lost his shit because I was supposed to leave the room and be out with the millennial and he could not get his head around the break in protocol, even though we've done similar a few times when I was recovering from the procedure or having a bad head ache. Those also distressed him. They are such creatures of habit.
I think getting used to the millennial being here so much is long term good for Livia's mental health even though it was really stressful at first. She's getting more tolerant of people who aren't in her clowder and she's being way more social with us too. we are talking 2-3 times the amount of pettins from me and she's getting better at signalling when she's ready for attention from a human. I am proud of her. Change is really hard for her and she's always been extremely shy.
This would be a complicated week even without the heat. My hearing is scheduled at 1PM Thursday. I need to be where the computer and paperwork are reasonably accessible, so that sure sounds like me being at my desk in the afternoon in this heat wave. Let us hope for rain.
It took two weeks to talk to a live person at Clear, which means odds are no representation for me and I have no idea how to file things or do any of this. I literally only worked out how to access the portal and the mail system associated with it like Friday. (In my defense, I'd made it into the portal late May, but they changed.. idk, providers? Software? And it was a lot to deal with on top of all the medical stuff.) The one witness I'd want is on the witness list according to the paper work that arrived today, so that's something.
No one thinks that in a reasonable world I owe the state money for a mistake they made; that likely makes no difference, at least to me reading how the statutes are written. Let's hope for a friendly judge.
