It is not an occasion for condolences, so please don't feel any pressure on that account. At this point it's a matter of waiting.

* In lighter news, Squirrel slept in, so we did not do the thing wwe'd intended to do. I had to change the bed and do laundry thanks to a small mishap of Tavy's, but he'd been caught and dosed, and otherwise the three beasties were angels today and I fear I rather spoiled them as a result. Once it was clear today's plans were cancelled, I went out on what I thought was a 10-15 minute pecan pie acquisition errand. Bwahahaha! No. Apparently demand way outstripped supply this year. The best place to get it from an expense to quality ratio had been out since Wednesday evening. By the time I got back to my car, I'd mapped out five more options ordered not by quality, but gas expenditure. The more expensive and slightly better pies as=t the second store sold out almost as son as they hit the shelves, apparently. The roads were clogged and it was full dark at this point. Place three was not an ideal option from any perspective, but from a traffic flow and gas perspective, it was logical. The parking gods did not smile on me, nor the pie gods. I was so tired by this point, I seriously considered giving in and getting Boston Creme so I could go the hell home, but while I trust their pie to be edible, I didn't trust the cake. I gambled on the place with the third best, still quite good pie. There's are rather smaller than I like for a dinner party of this size, but they actually had them! I figure it's okay, as I'm also making vegetarian mincemeat pie, so it should be fine.

The disabled parking was, inevitably gone by the time I got back from my nearly two hour pie odyssey, because, of course. I'd have gone earlier if I'd not been waiting for Squirrel all afternoon, and I knew even odds I was losing parking by leaving at dusk.

Really, I should have made shoefly pie this afternoon, but it's a lot of standing and I'm just not up to anything that complicated right now. The mince smells lovely though. I've got gravy thawing. Now to remember to bring the mulling spices, gravy, and pies tomorrow.
