* I got "Dead Man's Hand" out from the library because it had a Seanan McGuire Story I was interested in. These aren't really my sort of stories, but I was trudging through despite the McGuire one being the only thing in there I enjoyed. Then I reached a story that made me so angry I wanted to throw the book. It was two days ago and I am still angry.

I need to state that I am not-native American and it's not my culture that got appropriated a twisted here. The thing is, back in college I dated a Sun Dancer for a while. He started out as support, but in the Summer between when we met and when we started dating, he was called to do it. I remember the scars the hooks made and the way he talked about what the Sun Dance meant to him. The Sun Dance is a beautiful and sacred thing. It is about peace and reconciliation and some asshole appropriated that and made it about violence and cruelty. This is disgusting on a level I don't have words for and I have to wonder why the fuck the author thought this was an okay thing to do and why the editors chose to publish this obscenity. Seriously, why the fuck would you do that?
