Aug. 24th, 2014 04:39 am* More than 1400 people are dead in the ebola outbreak in west Africa and continues to spread. Liberia's heath system is on the verge of collapse.
* Ferguson Mayor James Knowles keeps insisting that despite the massive amount of evidence to the contrary there is no racial divide in Ferguson. It seems to me the only way he could think that is to only ask well off white people, which pretty much underlines what's wrong in Ferguson.
* Things that make me go hmmmmm: On the nights the police don't choose to violently attack peaceful protesters there is no violence. Funny that.
* The head of the Missouri Republican party issued a statement attacking attempts to register voters of colour in Ferguson "not only disgusting but completely inappropriate." I think this says about all you need to know about the openly racist ideology of the modern Republican party.

* Tanya Huff's Silvered is really good. Excellent world building. Four strong main characters and a likeable cast of secondary characters. I very much want to read more about this world. I am not comfortable with the tropes around mental illness in this, but other than that, it was a good read.
Also, I rather liked the tribute to Sean Bean's version of Sharpe.
* Y'all know I have a strong preference for dark hair, but that red head on Outlander is smokin' hot.
