Aug. 15th, 2013 01:39 am* While I oppose the Muslim Brotherhood's aim of imposing Sharia law on Egypt and Morsi's attempt to undermine the Constitution making process to that effect, I believe in their right to free speech and protest. I am also convinced the crack downs are bad for the future of Egypt. That people are dying is deplorable. At least 258 last count. About 235 were protesters and 3 were journalists. The rest were security forces. Again, I'm not okay with them burning down churches and attacking people; it's just that I'm not okay with them being rounded up or slaughtered for exercising free speech.

* It was strangely comforting to see Greg Louganis out and about and still looking gorgeous and healthy after something like two decades of infection. It's hard to put into words how hard that was to imagine before protease inhibitors. I really liked him and he'd been through so much and there he was on TV talking more openly about the discrimination than he dared to do back when he first came out. It was as if he embodied progress on so many fronts last night even as he was talking about the way things are getting worse in Russia if anything.
