* Friday, I stayed up all day, first for forage and then because I was taking a friend to the Lake. It turned out to be a perfect day for the Lake despite starting out chilly. It soon settled into true hot and muggy Summer every time the breeze stilled here in town. At the lake the wind off the Bay was steady and i was the perfect amount of hot to make the chill of thee Lake refreshing and fun, while being the right amount of warm to pleasantly dry one off as one snacked on fruit and nuts. Despite the perfect lake weather it was only moderately peopled, and most were rafting rather than swimming. We swam way out further than we normally do. The only imperfections were that there was only one duck and that the crabs or crayfish or whatever they are were unusually active. Is it freshwater crustacean mating season or something? I wasn't injured as it went for my heel instead of a toe, and the other encounters were brushes to the sides of our feet. Twenty years, I've been coming there and it never happened before. All three encounters were as we had moved out of the deep into the bit where we could stand comfortably, rather than the true shallows, and as we were coming out. Anyway, by the time I got home from dropping my friend off,it was evening and I'd been up 18ish hours, so retired to bed without checking in on Internet things.

As you've likely guessed, I only got half of Thursday's postings up before Friday's RL hit me and I was absent for RL and sleep Friday. I will endeavor to catch up before Monday, but no guarantees.

* I am really enjoying watching the Living and the Dead, despite what happens to their lesbian. I have read a LOT of 19th century pastoral novels so I am having all sorts of geeky fun picking out tropes and references. Even as it's functioning beautifully as a loving pastiche of the genre, it's doing a first rate job of playing with late Victorian supernatural/psychological horror tropes. It really does work both as a tale of modernization vs. tradition and surviving early modern cultural customs and as an atmospheric series of interwoven ghost stories with a particularly clever use of creepily sung traditional ballads to frame the individual episodes. Lovely, really lovely. Don't tell me how it ends, as I've not quite done.
