* Syria is refusing to allow UN monitors any where near Homs, what with the government committing genocide there. The last thing they want is outside observers.

* India just tested a long range missile successfully.

* It's sounding like Spain is in need of bail out.

* No, Anders Breivik did not murder 77 people, most of them teenagers, because he played World of Warcraft. He did it because he is a NAZI with Islamaphobia. (It's not a Godwin's Law thing. He's an actual NAZI complete with doing Hail Hitler salutes at his trial).

* To no one's surprise they aren't arresting Ted Nugent. After all, he's all hatk and no cattle just generally. It's not that I think he's a credible threat, but I think giving a speech likening the President to a coyote that shit on the sofa and needs to be shot plus threatening to kill him oneself to an NRA convention is pretty much daring the less grounded members to make their own attempts. Imagine if a rapper had said those things about W.. Think that FOX news would be poopooing it? Or do you think they would be using it to beat up the Left. I really do think that calling for the assassination/threatening to assassinate political figures is a bad fucking idea, whether it's Sharon Engle, Sarah Palin, or Ted Nugent. I'd list a Democrat, if I could think of one, but this seems to be a disease of the Right lately. I think we'd be better off if there wasn't a mainstream party endorsing this sort of thing. Nugent is a washed up rock musician, but Palin and Engle had the full force and funding of the Republican Party behind them when they were calling for the assassinations of opponents, and the right in general lines up to defend them when they do it. It's dangerous and toxic for the process of Democracy, just like other mainstream republican ideas like voter suppression, refusing to allow the opposition's votes to be counted in state legislatures, and financial martial law. I think we need the rule of law, not force.

* A Catholic Bishop compared President Obama to Hitler and Stalin, on the grounds that getting women access to health care is exactly the moral equivalent of deliberately starving the whole of Ukraine or rounding up Jews, Roma, LGBT folk, communists, and Catholics for extermination. Do I need to point out how disgusting that is? Meanwhile, the Vatican has admonished American nuns to stop wasting so much time on helping the poor and more on their proper mission of fighting marriage equality and women's access to health care. The Catholic League is calling for a boycott of John Stewart. Seattle parishes are in serious trouble with the Churc Hierarchy for supporting marriage equality.

* RIP: Johnathan Frid, the much beloved original Barnabas Collins is dead. He was classically trained and the best actor in the Dark Shadows cast, the heart and soul of the show. I was lucky enough to see him in Arsenic and Old Lace playing Jonathan Brewster beautifully. He could do menacing, but it was his gentle soulful out of his time quality that made his so compelling, I think. Damn!

* I've not been following this closely, as there's hardly any coverage over here, but I absolutely agree with Sparkindarkness. Yes, I feel the same way about our own torturing of suspects: http://www.sparkindarkness.com/2012/04/on-abu-qatada-drama-llama.html

"But if they want to vote in certain places, they may have to do it. Such surgery typically costs between $40,000 and $50,000—that’s probably the largest poll tax ever. And when the percentage of transgender citizens most likely to lack proper identity documents are those who make below $10,000 a year, for many it’s plain impossible."

* Today's the last on the antibiotic. Eating is challenging, but I know things will soon improve.

* I know it's trendy, but I really dislike Greek yogurt. Yogurt in general is something I'm really picky about. (Some of it is flavour and some of it is texture. Basically, some of it tastes a little too rotten to me, and yoghurt is mayonnaise adjacent texturally and I despise mayonnaise on all levels. Might as well spread semen on sandwiches as mayonnaise, et al). I won't eat Dannon at all, for example. So keep in mind, that I'm someone who will only eat a limited set of brands and flavours. I have discovered that I can actually eat Chobani's Passionfruit. It does not remind me of lumpy expired milk. It's not a warm endorsement, I know, but I think I might actually be willing to try other flavours.

* Hector is holding a one cat protest in favour of a daily goosh ration. He's SOL. It's hard enough to buy enough for twice a week.

* Chimpanzee opens today. Remember first week profits go to Jane Goodall's foundation. It's a good cause and an interesting topic.

* This is still one of my favorite bits of musical theater and now it's stuck in my head so I'm linking it: http://youtu.be/gdjeO7jh8e0

* South Sudan is withdrawing troops from the Northern part of the disputed territory.

* We've called for an arms embargo against Syria. Who expects China and Russia to block it what with them arming the Syrian government to encourage the genocide? Almost sixty people were murdered today in the government bombardment of Homs, as part of the supposed ceasefire. Six UN inspectors confined to Baghdad aren't going to solve this.

* I've lost track of french politics in recent years, which looks like a mistake. If anyone's up on the french elections, I'd love to hear about the ins and outs.

* In Egypt a large coalition of people infuriated by the military disallowing a bunch of candidates to run for office are now holding pro-Democracy protests.

* They are still planning to have the Formula One Grand Prix in Baharan this weekend despite the Democracy protests and the governments periodic brutal suppression. A member from a team from India went home after they were nearly ht by a bomb. It honestly amazes me anyone thinks this race is a good idea.

* Today as really bad physically, as in can't keep my meds down bad. Luckily, I baked yesterday, so there is emergency food.

* Yep, Shank's discontinued their rose extract. It looks like the Nielson-Massey is my only hope. A test batch of cupcakes worked out, though I put a bit too much in, out of habit from dealing with the crappy internet extract. I'll need to do another test to be sure, but that won't happen until next month.

* Hector still isn't letting me have uninterrupted sleep, but he himself is eating and sleeping, and he was sane enough for a long pet after senior beastie med time.
