Jun. 30th, 2011 12:02 am* Squirrel paid his half of rent a little early and I went a little berserk at the farmer's market. Fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables!
* I haven't seen anything rabid in a while. I'm still keeping the beasties in though.
* There were flight delays at JFK today due to turtle mating season.
* Jelly fish shut down a nuclear reactor in Scotland.
* "History never really happened as long ago as you think.:" http://rm.livejournal.com/2092162.html?style=mine
* I think this is incredibly tacky and inappropriate. when will the media stop humping her corpse? http://cdn02.cdn.gofugyourself.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Newsweek_PrincessDiana-419x566.jpg
* Apparently someone accidentally spilled some wine on Glen Beck's wife, then apologized and helped clean her up. According to Beck this was "the equivalent of a lynching." Really? REALLY?
* Black Moon has dropped at BPAL.
* Yet another reason I love the BPAL Forum: A young single mother posts in the Childfree thread for help on how to become her own person, and a large number of helpful people write in kind advice on how to build a healthy sense of self. Not one was rude to her about being a teen mother.
* I've been enjoying A Girl's Guide to Guns and Monsters, which is an anthology of girls and young women saving themselves. Some of the stories are significantly better than others, but it's good fun and a fast read, and so far contains a pair of lesbian heroines. I'm only about half through, so I can't speak to the diversity of the whole collection.
* Food bank lines locally have been all the way around the corner in front of the motorcycle dealership. That's a 2-3 hour wait for food with no guarantee there will be much there when a person hits the front of the line. I got a call yesterday from the Navajo Nation looking for food and monetary donations for their food bank. O.o I mention this because likely, no matter where you live, people are likely hungry and running low on toilet paper and other sanitary supplies. If you have extra, consider donating food or money to your local food bank.
* Let's talk about Inflation for a minute. Yes, double digit inflation is bad and run away inflation is scary bad. HOWEVER, some inflation is a necessary side effect of a working economy. No really. Let me explain. you and a bunch of your coworkers take you paychecks to the bank. Let's say you put ten percent into your savings. The bank then lends that money to a small business. Where is that money? it's both in your account, and in that small businesses account. That small business then spends some of that money to but supplies. Those suppliers now have the same money that also shows as being in your account. They pay their employees, who then put ten percent in savings which gets lent out by another bank. Where is the money? It's now showing as existing in multiple locations. A certain amount of inflation really is a symptom of healthy commerce. Moderation in all things, folks. There will be inflation even if the government is only printing enough money to replace worn out bills. If you don't have inflation, likely you have deflation. The last time we had deflation in this country was during the Great Depression and is a sign your economy is nearly dead on it's feet.
