* As it turns out, volume two of Walking Dead has hardly anything in common with the events in the show. People said it was different, but I'm startled by how much. Mostly, I'm still plugging away at my pile o' non-fiction, so I haven't much to report.

There's been another bad hurricane, this time in mostly in Missouri. So far 116 people are confirmed dead and a thousand people or so are homeless. There will likely be more. So far they have pulled 17 people alive out of the rubble. It is the ninth deadliest one in US history. Yes, I saw the weather channel guy weeping. I know it's not considered professional, but the guy was on the scene and I don't blame him one bit.

They are wanting blood, of course, as in any disaster with lots of injuries. If you are legally allowed to donate, especially if you are in that region, it's a good way to help. They are always short of blood everywhere, so even if you aren't close, it's a kind thing to.

If you can not give blood, there is always money: http://www.redcross.org/

* Happy Birthday deusabscondum!

* Eight days until the Deadline drop!

* Neo_prodigy's doing a guest column here on June second as part of his virtual book tour for Hollowstone which drops the 17th.

* Look, I'm happy when people I correspond with do well, okay? Especially when they are seriously talented and deserve to succeed.

* Mitch Daniels has dropped out of the Republican race. Yawn.

* Apparently, folks are taking in Sunday's tornado homeless, so there is plenty of room in the shelters, for once. It's heartwarming to see a community pull together like that. Part of why the death tool in Joplin was as high as it was was a lack of basements. The houses were not strong enough to hold up under a tornado that big and even though most people did the right thing, they hadn't a prayer.

* There were ten tornadoes today, one of which started in North Carolina and threatened, but missed Pittsburgh and Albany.

* They are expecting more and possibly worse tornadoes in the mid-west tommorrow.

* The Republican Party would like to remind you that we don't need FEMA and climate change is a myth. Assholes.

* This photo of Britany spears as a bondage bunny has seared my soul, so I'm inflicting it on you: http://cdn04.cdn.gofugyourself.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/114505163-419x597.jpg

* This outfit is really unfortunate, and I think the bad tailoring is making it a lot worse: http://cdn01.cdn.gofugyourself.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/114504361-419x561.jpg

* Did no one tell him it was a red carpet event? http://cdn03.cdn.gofugyourself.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/angelinajolie_114503720-419x587.jpg

* Squirrel needed his car this afternoon, so I got up way too early to go to gimp aerobics. I have been doing laps when i go for... a year and a half, maybe two years/ anyway, there were only two people in there I knew, the alpha male and a woman I mostly ever see from behind. (There was a lady used to do gimp water aerobics in the hot tub, but she has dementia and doesn't really recognise people or speak anymore). The alpha male started out giving me the side eye, then moved up to openly staring/glaring. I'm not surprised he recognized me, as I'm still wearing the same bottoms and my disability, age, and exercise style are distinctive. (Gimp aerobics is a perfect mix of moves for my arthritis, but not aerobic enough so I push harder than the other gimps. Regular aerobics is aerobic enough, but the exercises are repetitive and I have to do all these modifications for my back and hip when they get to the weight training and deep water bits. Either way I stand out, especially as you can still see old ballet and martial arts training in the way I do the moves. I am also the only person under sixty in there at the moment). Clearly, he wildly disapproves of my transition. He didn't say anything to my face, but it could get ugly in future. I'm preparing strategies. On the upside, the under manager who reacted with surprise and horror last fall/Winter, whichever it was I started the whole swim wear policy ball rolling, is no longer avoiding me and nods hi as I go past. I figure this'll all make things easier for the next person.

To be clear, the pool is owned by the city and has a positive history with treating LGB employees well, just like the rest of the city. Trans folk as a group tend to be leering of swimming what with the stripping down in front of strangers; not being able to wear prosthetics and the like; the danger of assault, drama, or arrest; and the whole messy issue of gendered swim wear. Some people do, and swim wear is often a topic in the right season in trans spaces, but a whole lot of us don't. It's rather like the rest room issue times ten, really.

* I'm so overwhelmingly tired, but was meant to do more cleaning for the plumber and pet maintenance. Gah!
