Despite McCain repeated claims that he would vote to repeal DADT if the joint chiefs asked him, the new, reinvented extreme right ring version of John McCain lead the filibuster to block repeal, because hypocrisy is nothing when faced with the pandering to the tea party. does it ever bother him that he's sold his soul and gone back on so many of the principles he stood for a decade ago.

Odds are if this gets shelved 'til after the election, it's getting shelved for years.

Asshole.

* Y'all know I have some serious problems with Dan Savage (Mostly race stuff. He was anti-trans, but he's trying to fix that, but i don't trust him, particularly with the race stuff), but he has launched a youtube channel to try to help rural LGBTQ youth by telling them things get better and providing models for healthy adulthood. They are looking for submission and it's a beautiful idea. Here's the first post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IcVyvg2Qlo

* I'm still feverish and I can tell from the flavour of my dream fragments. Last night I dreamed I was playing with a GI Joe I owned in the late '70's (whereabouts currently unknown) while watching a VCR tape of some imaginary kids show with aliens done HR Puff 'n stuff style. WTf?!? Now I'm genuinely wondering what became of that GI Joe and my Lone Ranger. GI Joe was a bit taller than the Lone Ranger, but they and my Sister's Tonto were a lot shorter than the Kens, so the three of them provided my first slash experiments, because it was obvious to my pre-pubescent self that these three guys were dating, much as I was quietly convinced that Kirk and Spock had a thing going on and that Bones had a crush on Kirk, which was why he and Spock were always arguing. This was followed by post Supernatural Sam and Dean shopping for furniture, for their first house as adults, arguing over decor while trying to keep it all manlylike. I'm not sure when exactly the shadow things came out of the ruiver and invaded the furniture warehouse, but things got out of hand.

* On another note entirely. This is on my brain, so I'm infecting y'all:

I still think John Hart is way sexier than Spike. I just do.

* I saw the McCain thing today. He's now claiming to have never seen any evidence or testimony of the military doing things like hacking people's email to root out homosexuals, despite being on tape questioning people testifying about that very thing last winter. Given that he is claiming to have no memory of last March, I guess it's time to ask, is he going senile? I mean, it's not even a whole year, since he heard this testimony, and really the only choices are he's a lying hypocrite who would rather pretend to be senile than admit basic facts or he's actually senile. Given his massive personality change and complete disavowal of principles he held and championed two or three years ago (I'm not just talking about DADT here. He's done an about face on issues such as immigration, budget allocation, etc. as well), I'm really starting to worry. He used to be a decent, reasonable human being, and now he's this angry, hidebound, thinks with his emotions instead of his brain, denier of facts who claims not to remember events from less than a year ago. I don't recognize the man he was in the man he is now, and it freaks me out more than a little.

* I tried to watch the premiere of The Event the other night, but the first half hour was slower than zombies playing monopoly, and I fell asleep for the rest. Clearly, no one explained editing to them, as cutting back and forth between action and really slow boring backstory scenes that could have been summed up in a minute or two just made it excruciatingly dull. Modern audiences are well trained to pick up basic relationships with cues they had already embedded in their footage. They could have boiled everything in the first 30 minutes or so to a 5-7 minute first act and then actually moved on to plot. When I fell asleep there were n signs that they planned to move on to actual stuff worth watching. If I'm checking my watch every minute or so and wishing for a fast forward button nigh constantly? Time to pick up the pace, folks. Keep the stuff with the president. Keep the stuff with the meetings with the spokeswoman, and the footage of the agent trying to stop the plane. boil down the cruise stuff to essentials establishing characters and relationships using shorthand. Shorten the plane footage a little since it won't need to stretch so hard to try and fail to hold up all the long boring cruise stuff, then get on with it.

Obviously, I won't be watching, as I have better things to do than watch paint dry.

* Last night I dreamed I was discussing Lucielle Ball with Ricky Richardo. I was all worked up over the difference between who she was off screen (a strong, intelligent business woman) and the politics of her infantilized on screen persona. He was all apologetic about it.

* There are a lot of Republican candidates campaigning on either eliminating social security or handing it over to wall street at five times the administrative costs. They are also running on getting rid of Medicare and free health care for veterans. please, folks. I know things are not as we wish in Washington, but please don't let Republicans kill people by taking away their health care or force them into homelessness in old age. Please take this election seriously.
