Jun. 25th, 2010 12:21 am* I see the Republicans are blocking extended unemployment benefits medicaid subsidies to the states. Again. Even though real people are suffering. Even though unemployment benefits are stimulative to the economy because that money is spent quickly on things people need, as opposed to the usual Republican favorite of tax cuts to the rich. (It is vastly better to have lots of people not homeless and spending money on a variety of things, than one person who may or may not be spending the money on occasional luxury goods. Multiply that and see how it effects the national economy.) Congressmen Heller calls people who lost their jobs in the recession "hoboes." Oran hatch has claimed all the unemployed people will just waste the money on drugs. Guess their party affiliation. Go on. Something like 1.2 million people are losing their benefits tomorrow, thanks to the republicans.
* According to republicans, Obama is like Hilter because he is trying to get BP to pay for the mess they are making in the Gulf. It's like they think Godwin's law is a mandate. I'm honestly failing to see how this has any connection to the rounding up and murdering of large groups of people. Maybe I'm missing something basic here, but it seems to me that either i or the Republican party has forgotten what hilter is infamous for and I'm suspecting it's not me. It sickens me that they they are cheapening the memory of the horror in such a nonsensical way.
