- I, Mudd. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about McCoy saying those shitty things to Spock in the opener. Is it meant to be funny? I ask because it seems cruel for no reason. So creepy sexist conman, Harry Mudd, send androids to steal the ship and kidnap command crew. I know this is technological and not Godlike aliens, but it feels rather samey as the episode right after catspaw. Seriously the sexism hurts my teeth and is really hard to sit through even though it's from the villain. I get that it's meant to be funny at the expense of Mudd, but it's all just horrifying. And of course Uhura is tempted by the "eternal youth, eternal beauty." The sexist stereotypes aren't limited to the Andriods. At least she rejects it ultimately. And of course their leader is male. Sigh. Can these androids consent given they have to obey Mudd? I'm guessing yes as they eventually give the humans a big no, but Chekhov didn't know that. I am so grateful for Spock's deadpan here. I am amused by Kirk's first attempt being to logic fry them as that always worked before, but them being too smart for it. Alas, more extreme nonsense works. :( It's not that I want the robots to win, but they always solve computer problems with some variation of this. It WAS excellent nonsense at least instead of the usual perfunctory Kirk nonsense.
