It should be a straight up popularity contest voted on my regular people, but it's not my contest and I've only had access to the full contest for a few years as a viewer, so it's fine I don't get a say. Still, I liked Finland way better than Sweden. (This is not an attack on Sweden, just a beef with the whole juror system).

* In other news, last week, I got a call from an agency offering me two hours of free cleaning a week. I suspect this is the result of the home assessment.

The lady came Friday morning. I scheduled it to coincide with the usual forage delivery window, with the hope that I'd be able to go to sleep after. I did not plan on how BAD Thursday was going to be. I woke up with the pain shakes and since I had to stay up for all this stuff Friday morning, my mitigation options were limited. I managed, but everything was sloooooow.

The person they sent was excellent. I'd foolishly made the assumption they had proper pay and regular clients, like Home health care Aids. Apparently not. Bastards don't give them regular hours or clients or benefits and the pay is not great. They are gig workers and have to sign up for the jobs on an ap and hope they can get ones that they can drive to in reasonable time.

I fucking hate that I have to participate in an exploitative system like this. They should let people request particular workers at least, so the workers can get regular schedules.

She did great work and seemed really nice. She tried working past the time. I'm like, "Never, ever work for free. Make them pay you." I was sorting the forage box and offered her first pick of stuff we couldn't use. she had trouble believing I meant it at first, and when I offered her last weeks eggs, she got all excited, which makes sense given how expensive they are these days. I also sent her away with good rice (We have tons of rice already) and some fresh fruit and veg none of us can eat. Me: no really. We can't eat these for medical reasons. We'll just have to throw them out.

I was planning to offer them first pick of things we couldn't use and the Millennials weren't likely to particularly want regardless, but now I know how screwed they are by management? I just which I could give them cash too, but we simply haven't got it.

* Due to RL commitments, I was away from the computer most of Sunday. I had intended to post the aggregate, before I left, but I ran out of time. I spent all Monday out and about doing bureaucracy in the heat and high pollen count. It was rather suddenly high summer all weekend. Given how bad things were physically last week, I am a very special level of behind. My apologies.

* I ended up watching Queen Charlotte before our Netflix shut off. (Squirrel does our steaming services and had to cut ours for gas money to get to work. With Bridgeton, I generally pretend it is all a fantasy AU.

I still occasionally have trouble swallowing things like why Lady Featherington is the only one dressed in a 1950's bodice. The costumes are not historical, which I am mostly fine with because it mostly looks like on purpose design choices, but it's just very sore thumb and hard to shut my fashion history brain off for. I apparently have the same problem with King George III's hair. There are men with wigs or longer hair styled in one of the period fashions in a lot of larger scenes. Having one character with a random modern short hair cut stands out. If he was wearing a wig in public, but took it off in private, or had it cut when he was particularly ill, I would have just accepted it. having him be the only guy with short unpowdered unwigged hair at big formal events made it stand out more. I suspect I'm extra sensitive to it, because a lot of period dramas and things like that amazon Lord of the Rings chose short hair when it doesn't fit or cut the long hair of established characters to make them look more modern. Also, I just like long hair on men. So sue me.

I have a whole lot of feelings about the actual plot. I think the choice to go with autistic and schizophrenia was a really interesting one. I think that they treated him sympathetically and it was really nice to see a character who has psychosis being loved like that. I like that love doesn't magically cure mental illness, but it does make things better for the person experiencing it.

At the same time, my historian brain would start screaming and I'd have to remind it that this is fantasy and not history and it doesn't matter in a fantasy AU if they move things around by decades or dramatically change them. (I am better at keeping historian brain quieter for The Great as it's a farce and about as ahistorical as Black Adder series two. It's easier for me to accept nonsense history in a comedy than in a romance, if that make sense).

I suspect this is a me problem, and despite historian Brain not shutting up, I think this ended up being the most powerful and effective story in the Bridgeton series so far.
