Six Weeks Behind
* I'm sectioning off epidemic specific stuff in the aggregation between the dotted lines, so people who need to skip can skip without losing the other stuff. I'm putting secondary effects things in their usual slots.

* I keep watching all the stuff with the ableds quietly loosing their minds with confinement and it really strikes me how different this experience is for me, a person who is medically fragile and disabled. I have had to surrender a big chuck of my remaining independence and periodic friend visits, but it’s not all that different from how I lived before. Like Monday errands are gone and I hate having to depend on other people or fresh food, but I physically couldn’t go out that much before and it was exhausting and painful. I can’t just pop over to ACE if I, say, run out of lightbulbs, but how often does that happen?
I knew back in late February I’d likely be mostly confined for the next year or two, assuming a safe and effective vaccine can be made in that time. I was expecting to have to do furtive off hour shopping in a mask, but the Millennials stepped up there. The things I’m bummed about are the visit I turned down in early March from I friend i hardly ever see for safety reasons. i am bummed out I won’t be taking the Millenials swimming come summer, that I likely won’t be able to manage doing the Gothmas display alone and we’ll miss decorating and wrapping the presents in late September/early October, that I’ll be missing secret pumpkins and my Birthday/Gothmas party next Autumn. It’s things like that I’m losing and I hate it, but again, this was obvious by the beginning of March. The timeline on this is out of my hands, so there’s nothing for it, but to keep on keeping on.
I’ve had twelve years to adapt to making my own schedule in the absence of work and structuring my own life around confinement and illness. I’ve had fifteenish or so to get used to being to ill to socialize sometimes and to learn to live with infection precautions. A big chunk of my social life has been online for a decade and a halfish.
It is so weird watching the able bodied people having to en masse and all at once adapt to a life style familiar to a whole lot of us who have these kinds of disabilities. Discovering the survival skills we use to stay sane during long confinements.
I have spent decades wishing people who are sick would stay home or at least where a mask if that had to be out at places like the doctor’s office because things that are a nuisance to them can land people like me in the hospital or worse. I am often the only person I see in smoke season or allergy season or when I can’t work out if I’m sick again, but have to go out. I hate handshaking, I hated it even before I became sick for sensory reasons. assuming I don’t die of covid and they find a good vaccine, I’ll be lot safer in a world where makes were normalized and assholes with obvious lung infection don’t refuse masks and sit filling the air in the Doctor’s office with infectious coughing, where I’m required to touch strangers or me considered impolite.
I’m not heartless. Trust me, the adjustment was hard for me too. Every day I mourn the dead in the pandemic. I don’t know how long this will really be and a lot of people and important things that made up community are going to be lost.
So much depends on what we build from this. We need basic income, universal free health care, a system that automatically pays rents for people and small business in emergencies, and salaries for furloughed workers. We need environmental protection and green technologies, not the rolling back of regulations that protect people and the planet. We need a progressive tax system, not the regressive one republican have spent my life time building over my objections. We need election reform and an end to gerrymandering.
Things are going to change regardless. What happens after this horrific passage depends so much on what we build now. Together. Remember, this time it’s essential we don’t leave anyone behind.
* Monday they shut off the water for a while. We knew this was happening and it was when we are generally asleep anyway.
The water pressure has always been bad in my sink particularly, and last week i noticed it was going bad on the tub. Kitchen was still fine, and I have always assumed this is some problem with my bathroom pipes. I’ve been kicking myself for not putting it on the fix list for the city. It never occurred to me to complain because again, I thought it was a i’m responsible forit situation and also because getting management to fix anything is a nightmare game of telephones that usually involves months of them ignoring whatever and a half ass fix it job at best.
Last night I took a bath during an internet outage and there was so much hot water pouring out of the spout. I checked the sink and there was a tun of hot water coming out there too. O.o I have no idea what they did, but thumbs up.
* Something I've learned over the years is, if one is having trouble starting a task, it generally helps if one breaks the task down to smaller steps and gives oneself permission to just do one for now. At minimum one is a step closer to finishing. sometimes one keeps doing steps after that first one. If the step is too big, get smaller steps.
I stalled out on the fish equipment stuff and the boxes were making it hard to do other getting the house in order stuff. Today I did a smaller step and there is now one reasonable sized box of equipment in the bathroom waiting for a water test. I'm calling it progress.
