* Wednesday, Republicans rose up and attempted a coup after 45 ordered them to storm the capital and overthrow the government. The coup was put down, but 45 has not been arrested, nor have most of the people who tried to overthrow our government Democracy in his name, nor have Gohmert who called for the armed overthrow of the Government, nor Hawley nor any of the others who came out in support of that coup attempt.
The Capitol Police sided with the insurrectionists, refusing help from other agencies, removing barriers and generally helping the fascists in their attempt to violently establish a Trumpist dictatorship. To underline how much of a choice allowing the the looting of the Capitol is, contrast their active help with the level of force they illegally used against peaceful protesters last summer so 45 could hold a bible upside down in front of a Church for a photo op.
The Republicans also showed support for the attempted coup by going ahead with their plan to try to overthrow the election be having Senators and congress critters object to certifying the election. This attempt also failed, but if the overthrow of democracy was not now a mainstream Republican position why are so many elected officials proudly in support of this?

* I was still digesting the republican coup attempt Wednesday night and working on research and the like when our Internet went out. About an hour later it was frustratingly sporadic and i couldn't load half my stuff. I gave up and went to bed. My apologies.
Here's what else was going on at the Cat Asylum Wednesday: The Doctor's appointment was Endless. Getting into the lung clinic is a major drama. They do not answer the door bell so I have to wait until someone comes out to handle the next patient so I can flag them down, thus missing my appointment slot and pushing me back a half hour or so.
Them: Why didn't you use the door bell. Me: I did. No one ever answers it. Every time I come I ring it every five minutes or so. I've been here three times. No one's come yet.
I feel like the doorbell system could be streamlined. I don't know if it's not hooked up or they can't here it or they deliberately ignore it.
Neither the Doctor or nurse knew me and thus a massive amount of extra explanation was needed, so that went on and on. They had no sputum containers to send me home with, which meant dealing with the lab.
This is also a whole drama because there is no provision for people with no phones. As usual, I had to talk my way through several layers of screening to get sputum specimen containers. Ex: "No, If I quarantine for two weeks I will just be sicker and you still won't let me inside to get the specimen cups for the sputum test I need to get the targeted anti-biotic. The point of me being here is so we can find out which antibiotic to prescribe. For which I need specimen containers. which you won't give me because I can't go inside."
It would be much simpler if the screener could just go get a lab person to take my information and get me specimen containers. I could be gone in 5-10 minutes, but lab people don't come outside and I can't go in which requires me arguing with screeners who then have to go in and explain telephone game style until a lab person gives in agrees to come out with the clipboard to take my details which wastes 3-4 people's time for half an hour.
We did this last September or August, where they had lied to me that they would take the specimen via drive up, only they don't because I don't have a phone and after arguing through several layers wanted me to start over at the screening station where we could have had the same argument from scratch for another half hour. I decided to skip ahead to the arguing with screeners stage, but still, they've been doing this from march and refuse to come up with a system for dealing with people with non-Covid lung infections.
Update: I had sporadic outages all evening, but was able to work around them ass they were reasonable in length.

* I tend to not notice things like casting decisions and behind the scenes drama and i avoid leaked information about series like the plague. I think I vaguely remember hearing a new Discworld thing got green lit, but when I saw the commercial for the Watch, I didn't connect the dots since it looked like some sort of Shadowrun adaptation in the commercials.
It took three days to get through the double episode. Me early on: Weird, they seem to have a lot of the same names as Pratchett characters from the Wa-wait a minute.
Yeah. It's...Oh god, it's like they jammed five books or more in there and understood none of them. I am angriest about Cheery who fucking matters to me as a trans person, but after that I can't work out if I'm angrier about Vimes or sybil. The librarian is a close fourth, or maybe Death, but the list goes on and on. I don't recognize Anhk-Morpork. Why are they calling that mass murderer Riducully because he's not even close and is he taking credit for everyone's inventions? Why is time all jumbled up? None of this makes sense. None of it's right.
I kept thinking as I stared it it in confusion and horror at something so important and beloved being stuck in a blender on puree with the contents of a privy, that this would never have happened if Pratchett were alive.

The coup was put down, but 45 has not been arrested, nor have most of the people who tried to overthrow our government Democracy in his name, nor have Gohmert who called for the armed overthrow of the Government, nor Hawley nor any of the others who came out in support of that coup attempt.
The Capitol Police sided with the insurrectionists, refusing help from other agencies, removing barriers and generally helping the fascists in their attempt to violently establish a Trumpist dictatorship. To underline how much of a choice allowing the the looting of the Capitol is, contrast their active help with the level of force they illegally used against peaceful protesters last summer so 45 could hold a bible upside down in front of a Church for a photo op.
The Republicans also showed support for the attempted coup by going ahead with their plan to try to overthrow the election be having Senators and congress critters object to certifying the election. This attempt also failed, but if the overthrow of democracy was not now a mainstream Republican position why are so many elected officials proudly in support of this?

* I was still digesting the republican coup attempt Wednesday night and working on research and the like when our Internet went out. About an hour later it was frustratingly sporadic and i couldn't load half my stuff. I gave up and went to bed. My apologies.
Here's what else was going on at the Cat Asylum Wednesday: The Doctor's appointment was Endless. Getting into the lung clinic is a major drama. They do not answer the door bell so I have to wait until someone comes out to handle the next patient so I can flag them down, thus missing my appointment slot and pushing me back a half hour or so.
Them: Why didn't you use the door bell. Me: I did. No one ever answers it. Every time I come I ring it every five minutes or so. I've been here three times. No one's come yet.
I feel like the doorbell system could be streamlined. I don't know if it's not hooked up or they can't here it or they deliberately ignore it.
Neither the Doctor or nurse knew me and thus a massive amount of extra explanation was needed, so that went on and on. They had no sputum containers to send me home with, which meant dealing with the lab.
This is also a whole drama because there is no provision for people with no phones. As usual, I had to talk my way through several layers of screening to get sputum specimen containers. Ex: "No, If I quarantine for two weeks I will just be sicker and you still won't let me inside to get the specimen cups for the sputum test I need to get the targeted anti-biotic. The point of me being here is so we can find out which antibiotic to prescribe. For which I need specimen containers. which you won't give me because I can't go inside."
It would be much simpler if the screener could just go get a lab person to take my information and get me specimen containers. I could be gone in 5-10 minutes, but lab people don't come outside and I can't go in which requires me arguing with screeners who then have to go in and explain telephone game style until a lab person gives in agrees to come out with the clipboard to take my details which wastes 3-4 people's time for half an hour.
We did this last September or August, where they had lied to me that they would take the specimen via drive up, only they don't because I don't have a phone and after arguing through several layers wanted me to start over at the screening station where we could have had the same argument from scratch for another half hour. I decided to skip ahead to the arguing with screeners stage, but still, they've been doing this from march and refuse to come up with a system for dealing with people with non-Covid lung infections.
Update: I had sporadic outages all evening, but was able to work around them ass they were reasonable in length.

I think I vaguely remember hearing a new Discworld thing got green lit, but when I saw the commercial for the Watch, I didn't connect the dots since it looked like some sort of Shadowrun adaptation in the commercials.
It took three days to get through the double episode. Me early on: Weird, they seem to have a lot of the same names as Pratchett characters from the Wa-wait a minute.
Yeah. It's...Oh god, it's like they jammed five books or more in there and understood none of them. I am angriest about Cheery who fucking matters to me as a trans person, but after that I can't work out if I'm angrier about Vimes or sybil. The librarian is a close fourth, or maybe Death, but the list goes on and on. I don't recognize Anhk-Morpork. Why are they calling that mass murderer Riducully because he's not even close and is he taking credit for everyone's inventions? Why is time all jumbled up? None of this makes sense. None of it's right.
I kept thinking as I stared it it in confusion and horror at something so important and beloved being stuck in a blender on puree with the contents of a privy, that this would never have happened if Pratchett were alive.
