In terms of Judges, local/state bar associations often provide guides for which of the candidates are qualified which are available to the public via the internet. (Do be aware that they tend to be biased towards prosecutors in terms of giving them 'well' or 'exceptionally well' qualified status. I know at least a few lawyers who suggest that all else being equal vote for judges who are defense or corporate lawyers or otherwise practice non-prosecutorial law.)

Sometimes local newspapers will also have guides or at least endorsements which frequently have an explanation of their thinking in their choices.
