* I was exhausted, so went to bed super early. Unfortunately, I forgot the cough, so I ended up spending my three hours of coughing in bed not sleeping instead of spending it doing something useful. Sleep, when I got it, was not good. Today's mission was to take Squirrel to get an elderly truck he'd been gifted, which needed a new battery, but otherwise works. It turned out the battery was too far gone for the truck to make it more than a block, so I drove to the battery place where I also got my tires. I'd noticed the passenger tire was low on Monday when I last took it out, and had added air to the to do list. we pulled in and the tire guys gave it a horrified look and asked if we were there for tires. "I hope you didn't buy tat here." "I did, a couple weeks ago. I have a receipt." The man helping us today was the one who looked rather like Tyr from Almighty Johnson's and remembered me and my battery from last Spring. He took the tire off, was horrified that they'd sold it to me and replaced it free. Squirrel's battery was about 30.00, so the trip was a win all around, although it did take all afternoon and more than a quarter tank of gas. Squirrel replaced his battery and followed me home so I could get him if there were problems.

In other news, assholes moved into the apartment we share space with. I say assholes advisedly as they know I am disabled, but are clearly shell gaming the spot, moving a different car in whenever they move the other car out, so we have no change at a turn, knowing full well I'm disabled and need a spot. I feel like this is cheating. It's one thing to come home and find the spot full as the luck of the draw, but I feel like going to those lengths to fuck us over knowing full well we were lied to also is super dickish. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, as I'd just park in the disabled spot, but someone with a temp tag good until February is perma parked there (as in, we don;t think they've moved in in the last month). I'm guessing they are really hurt or ill and just don't leave the house for non-doctor things, so I don't begrudge them. Someone is also perma parked in B disabled, which leaves me A on the far side of the complex or random street parking up to a block away. I know objectively, it's not a long distance, for me, walking to and from parking now eats a quarter to a third of the steps I have for a given trip this last couple of weeks and given how bad those two weeks have been physically while the able bodied people hog the shared parking.... I've only spoken to them on the phone, but I hate them now.

Tomorrow, I’m also short sleeped, this time to find out how much the check engine light is going to cost me.

* I've bailed out of AHS: Cult. It was a mix of problems. the first is that while it is important to do art about microaggressions, harassment, the terror that is the straight white conservative cis male, and the horror overtaking our country, this is too on the nose, and I spend my evenings documenting this stuff and have dealt with various versions of it all my life moving about in the world. The result is it's to preachy and preaching to the choir all at once. I might have been more receptive to watching this as entertainment in another year, but this is not the time to do it this way, or it is the time to do art about it, but a little more subtle. One or the other or both. Another problem has to do with some fundamental problems I tend to have with Ryan Murphy around race. Sometimes he does better than others, but it's an area where I don't trust him and nothing I've seen so far this season around race has made me happy. I am also really not trusting his handling of mental illness here. I am hoping it will get better, but I don't trust where this is going or that things will be handled well given past experience. (Look, I love his aesthetics and when he's on, he does some really interesting things. I have enjoyed a bunch of his other things, but he tends to be pretty problematic and sometimes the one balances the other out and sometimes it doesn't for me. YMMV).

Lastly, This whole thing is pretty triggery given my personal history, and with the first factor in play, this is not a good thing for me to be watching in combination. If I'm going to do something this rough to myself I'd rather take another crack at season two of Hannibal a that has a whole lot of things relative to my interests in exchange for a similar set of triggers. This is frankly not giving me anything back in exchange for dragging me through the worst of reddit while triggering me on my personal stuff. I had reached the bit when the cheeto brother was trying to get the woman with the phobias to let him in, doing all the horrible shit rapists and abusers do to women, playing on socialization, and I thought, "I would rather be scrubbing out the litter boxes. That at least results in clean litter boxes.

So I'm out. Maybe he'll do something amazing later, but I'm pretty sure this particular ride is not for me.

* I struggled with what to say about Will when it was on, my thoughts were complicated and not easy to put into words that would make good sense. I don't agree with everything in here, and I DID want a second season to explore the Will/Kit relationship. I also have a lot of thoughts about race in the show: the things they did well and the things I'm still really angry about. For the most part though, this did a better job than I could possibly do talking about the things I was struggling to put into words, and I'm very glad someone managed it. * I gave up trying to make sense of 45's word salad Arizona rant a little before midnight on the grounds that i was exhausted and all I was getting out of it was a headache instead of meaning. I did have a lovely dream about a modern AU where Steve Rogers (me in the dream. Don't judge.) woke from the ice with no real memories of what came before, bet with the same personality and super soldier upgrades. He ended up recruited by Amanda Waller (Yes, I know I'm crossing the Marvel/DC streams) instead of Nick Fury. Meanwhile, when Natasha Romanov defected, she took the Winter Soldier with her. Bucky was exactly as confused with only vague flashes of the Before time. Natasha was running her own ring for Nick Fury out of a garage, with Bucky as mechanic and husband. Steve Rogers was sent for a team up mission between the two agencies. So there is Natasha dressed rather like the matriarch in sons of Anarchy, one elbow on Bucky's shoulder looking me over.Cut for salaciousness: ) And off we went on a mission that was basically a large trapped enemy base infiltration, with bits of memory coming back to both Steve and Bucky. A++ would Steve/Bucky/Natasha base infiltrate again. That and the cuddling Tavy and reading Tanya Huff's Fire Stone were the only good things that happened today.

I did some calculations and determined that I could make the attempt on tires today. This was a terrible mistake. Internet directions looked straightforward. This was a lie. They had me get off in the next town up drive to the highschool make a couple turns and follow this big straight road until I saw it on my right. This was not how we got there last time, but that also involved lots of turns through back country, which is always a terrible fucking idea, as the street signs are seldom good, there are few places to turn around or ask directions, and the local teens have a habit of twisting street signs to lead strangers astray. Worse yet, the nice straight lines on maps are usually lying and things happen like if you go straight at the intersection you are on a different road and to go straight by the map you must go left or right, often with no street sign of the street sign twisted the wrong way and there is no next street sign for another ten miles to tell you you are on the wrong road. All of these things happened, of course, which was why I was dreading doing this, especially without a navigator. I burned a third of a tank of gas, pulled over in a bunch of church lots, a factory lot, and someones house to consult maps. The internet directions and the address I was aiming for did not match, as the streets did not connect....

Low on gas I hit the end of the road where it was meant to be where was a baptist church. I checked the doors on the grounds that even at a weird time on a Thursday afternoon in summer, you can sometimes catch altar guild ladies or bible study or what have you and the building was large and complicated and I couldn't tell if there was a rectory tucked away somewhere. I was exhausted hot, half panicked as I could not be sure where I was and was not all that clear where the Interstate was. I was not sanguine there was anyone there, as I didn't see cars out font, but the lot stretched behind so I gave it a shot anyway. This is the PNW, and I know full well if one looks distressed enough sometimes the act of looking obviously distressed will attract help. (This works particularly well when you are having car trouble and it is pissing down rain. Seriously folks, I live here for a Reason, and this is one of the benefits along with ideal climate until climate change started fucking with it, closeness to Canada, excellent laws, strong education system, social safety net, Queer friendliness, beauty of the landscape, access to civilized amenities....) The weather was hot and clear, but the hope was there. Doors were locked, but an elderly gentleman on a bike saw my distress an stopped. (Seriously. PNW). I braced myself for being evangelized, but I was happy to deal with that in exchange for him letting me follow him to the tires. He lived next door, so got his truck and took me there. (I didn't get the impression he was the preacher, though he may have been. He came off more like a true believer of the sort that hold those places together, especially in the middle of no where). I let him give me a new testament which he inscribed himself and let him evangelize me, and used proper church phrases. I am really good at this given my upbringing, even though obviously I did not have a baptist upbringing. I did my very best to give him all the gratefulness and interest i clearly owed him in exchange for his help. I did not tell him I had a much better translation of old and new testaments with apocrypha on my reference shelf which I keep handy for arguing with homophobes on the internet mostly. Episcopalian are hard core into Bible study, both my parents and my mother's mother were at various points vestry, mom and Grammy had both been church treasurers. My mom taught Sunday school, did bell choir, ran pageants, planning was a lector. Mom and Grammy were both on planning committees and the like at various times. All three of them were on various reverend searches. My Dad and I were in choir. I'd done Bible study pretty much since I was old enough for chapter books and went to a school with chapel three times a week where I had classes where we did things like comparative religion, bible study, history of monotheism, etc.. I was the only one in the Medieval Studies program in college who arrived with a working knowledge of Medieval heresy. My choice to break with monotheism was deeply considered and irrevocable, not out of bitterness and certainly not out of ignorance. Buddhism fit better for a host of reasons, and i am just not a theist.

But polite is polite and he went waaaaaay out of his way to help me and I really was grateful. I paid my coin in attention and good manners and took my new testament meekly. I had burned so much gas, I wasn't sure there was enough to get home, so I bought the very cheapest tires instead of second cheapest, but they looked sound, and drove well at 70 on the long flat stretch of the highway in moderate wind, and breaking and lane changes were noticeably better, so I felt like they were a pretty good deal all things considered. The man who took my money, was very likely one of my students the last two years I taught. He had a distinctive face and went to the right middle school. I gassed up and had a ridiculously easy time getting home, as the highway was RIGHT there, but the gas station down the road. If I'd known, I could have just gone north to that exit, made a right off the ramp, and another right, driven a bit and there it would have been. Fucking A! I'd have had the better tires, not had to gas up, and not had a frustrating, exhausting, and occasionally dangerous all afternoon country drive in the heat.

At least we know where it is now.

* Tavy update: I think he's finally turning into a cat, for which I am greatful. I don't just mean that he's adult shape and weight, though that is true. I've noticed he's settled down a lot in the last two weeks or so. nHis sleep/cuddle/play balance is more young adult cat than kitten, which is dramatically easier on me, given how extra he was when he arrived even for a kitten. He's more willing to entertain himself in less destructive ways while I am asleep or out of the apartment with toys, busy box, busy bag, and contents himself with stealing the half piece of paper towel I use to keep my next to the desk coaster from being overwhelmed by ice water sweat, instead of stealing entire rolls of paper toweling, tp, and or books to shred. (He really likes shredding.) I will happily sacrifice half a paper towel segment a day not to wake up to things shredded and broken all over the apartment. He's also been dramatically less violent with me in that two week span, something I've been working on since we got him. He loves wrestling, which involves launching himself at my forearm, digging teeth and claws in hard as he can and attempting to disembowel it with his hind leg, which really fucking hurts and does real damage. I happily offer diversions, such as toys he can maul, string, cat in bag, etc.., but until recently we had a minimum of a half hour a day where he persistently tries and frequently really hurts me. We're down to one or two attempts every few days, and he's way easier to divert. He' still too violent with Squirrel and LM, hence the limited contact between the cats. (No one likes being bitten, no matter how much he likes biting. He genuinely thinks he's playing). Squirrel refuses to be strict with him as far as the mauling goes, so I'm not sure how well things will generalize, but I am really hopeful seeing how much he's improving. I've also noticed how much better he's gotten over the course of the summer at compensating for his disability. He's such a sweet, cuddly little guy, and I'm really enjoying who he's growing up to be.

So this morning as I was getting dressed, I realized that it should clearly be based on the Maltese Falcon, because clearly Dick Stone needed to star in the Maltese Dildo as private dick, Hump Free Boggart. (I know backwards, but pun!) I can see the golden dildo being held aloft right now. Come on, you'd watch it. I could be hilarious and brilliant in the right hands! (Waggle brows).

* During last month's car excitement, we had occasion to lift the rear seating compartment, something I had literally forgotten we had and had never used since I bought the car. To my horror, there were several inches of rusty water in there, which would explain the mold issue. My assumption is years of rain water. *Shudder* Something had to be done. Today I went out and tried to siphon it, which is nasty as siphoning means you get it in your mouth. The water having completely saturated the padding, It takes two hands to left, and you have to hold it up, as all the internal mechanisms had rusted, which means putting down equipment where one can reach while propping it open with a forearm. This is terrible design. If water is prone to gather in there, they should have put a drainage valve. It turned out that siphoning wasn't going to work as it wasn't quite deep enough for the siphon, so I had to hand bail a couple ounces at a time out of the wide shallow chamber. Exhausting and time consuming, painful for the propping arm. Water continuously drained from the padding. Luckily I wore one of the two brown shirts I own as I was quickly covered in rust. I did the trick were you lean on a corner of the bumper to make that corner a little deeper and did manage to get a lot out, but there is an inevitable limit. I went to the recycling, but this being 2017 there wasn't even one newspaper in thee for the whole complex. I did find two scholastic catalogues with phone book like pages, and sopped up what I could with that. I left it with cardboard on the bottom, propping it partially open for airing while sopping up more rust water. I came in and washed myself, did dishes, sorted out the plants, ate and lunged. A proper grown up would go change the cardboard, but I am exhausted and I'd have to change again and... Yeah.

Update: Squirrel has agreed to change the cardboard before and after work. Yaaaayyyyy!

* Today the sky is actually mostly blue. (More blue inland, fading to gray over the bay, but much improved. There was a pall of matte grey smoke over eveything still, making the sky look painted and flat. It is better for breathing than it was, but still not great.

We went swimming anyway, and the temperature was perfect for that, the cool of the lake the perfect antidote for the muggy heat. All this was a lot of driving. I am slightly more hopeful it is belts and not breaks due to the subtleties of how it drives. My hope is to take it in Monday and talk them into checking their work. Tires and wipers are likely to be 80ish and absolutel need doing this month and i am slowly bleeding money. I'm rather scared to check, but i will have to before monday. I suspect I won't be servicing the medical debt this month which will put me further behind, but at least the lights are staying on.

* Rejoice, for the Car emergency is ended! I anal retentively ordered a Blue Cab for an hour before the appointment for fear of the cab coming late. I foraged, as it's just around the corner from Honest Mechanic (Alignment and Brakes Plus Bellingham). In the event things ran about a half hour later than projected with my car, but this was all to the good as it turned out that when they opened it up, the alternator was not fried as previously believed, but chock full of belt frags that had essentially frozen it in place, and labor at Honest Mechanic is much cheaper than a new alternator. The result is that there was enough left over that between us, we had enough money for the whole electric bill, plus meds for both of us and cat food.

If anyone donated and would like a refund for the meds money and kibbles, the fundraiser having only been for car repair and electric, PM me and I'll see what I can do next month. Thank you again donators. The lights will stay on at the cat asylum.

I went to pharmacy, library, and to get kibbles and spend the last of this month's food stamps on magic apricot straws. The car battery is fully charged. Squirrel got off to his game on time. As I wrote this, I was full, the forage put away, and Tavy was in his room playing with his new pharmacy bag. All is well with the world.

* The Car FUBAR Escalates, or what I did all afternoon while trying not to vomit: So apparently the alternator also went, but it looked like just a belt when the tow guy peered at it. This meant tow to honest Mechanic. If you are watching the expense of all this ratchet up in your head, you are experiencing my afternoon only without the heat, escalating stress and grim resignation.

Squirrel called me a Blue Cab home as I haven’t a cell phone, it was way too far to gimp even if I didn’t have an impressive amount of spinal damage, and I had the rest of the cash he’d handed me for repairs that I had not spent on the tow physically on my person. Blue cab is a glorious left wing alternative to Yellow Cab founded by ex-yellow cabbies that is cheaper and treats their employees well (Unlike Uber), and regulated (unlike Uber), and safe (unlike Uber). Today’s driver was a gorgeous larger woman with purple hair to match her clothes and some really cute arm tattoos. Seriously, I fricken love blue cab with the friendly counter culture drivers.

It turned out to be Customer Appreciation Day and the ride was free!

The rest though? Jesus fuck! So now we need to try to raise $4-500ish for this month’s car repairs as we are ALSO a month behind on Electricity because of last month’s car repairs. We can’t NOT fix it, as there is no Graveyard shift public transport for Squirrel and my disabilities make not having a car pretty much unlivable.

I hate that I keep having to beg for money, but I feel like I’m bailing a leaky boat with a sieve and we’re going to drown.

I am shaking all over, but the car is fixed (For now. We really need new front tires before the rainy season starts and new radiator hoses ASAP, but the car is safe. We came in under budget at 400.00ish, which means everybody gets meds and Squirrel can get enough gas to go to and from work, but there isn't even close enough to cover electricity and Internet. I foraged around the corner while they waited for the starter to arrive and they actually had bread and bananas so I'm counting that as a win. (We were nearly out of bread by Frida, so I let squirrel have it, him needing it more, but I have been wanting sandwiches, and bananas being scare for the last month or more, my feet keep cramping). I had settled in on the bench to wait with water, my book, and my more fragile leg propped when it dawned on me I'd missed my wake up meds. D'oh. Not catastrophic, but I expected to start deteriorating around four, and I might have until six before I stopped functioning. Around when the part arrived, the wind had picked up so I moved inside to explore the mysteries of the keurig machine. It turned out they had a surprisingly good tea selection, including two types of chai, both of which I had time to try while I watched the man change out my starter. The radiator cap was dicey last time, and had gone the way of all things mortal. though I'd filled the radiator Friday, it was nigh empty, so I had them sort that too, on the grounds that it was still cheaper than estimate even with the extras and there was less chance of burning up the engine. It was five by the time I took off and my body was running out of time, but the meds really did need fetching and I was halfway to Squirrel's pharmacy. I had to pull over once and rest, but I manged his meds and the loop downtown for mine and the library. I took the skipped meds when I got home, put away the forage, made dinner, took dinner meds, and lunged. I can't stop shaking and it is annoying as fuck, but I think the crisis is past.

Tavy really was a good boy today, which is not easy for him. I was randomly exhausted last night and went to bed super early, which messes with his routine and I'm not entertaining when I am asleep. I could tell he was bored and lonely as he kept coming for face rubs in the morning every time I looked like I might be awake. He was sooo patient and sweet though. He got excited when he saw me getting dressed, but I am a terrible human and after a short bit of play Left the House. All afternoon! And he was so sweet about letting me pet him a bit before demanding play when I got home and I did bring the largest pharmacy bag, which is the best kind of paper bag, being large enough for the whole Tavy except hindquarters and tail, so he has days of playing bag and snake ahead of him and I am forgiven. He wore himself out with the preliminaries and is in there cuddled up with it as I write this.

* Today was disaster. Real, serious, I don't know what the fuck I'm going to do level disaster. This move has been incredibly rough on me physically, and I'm kind of at the end of my rope anyway on that. (The Wednesday allergen exposure was so bad I have a rash in patches all over my body and my eyes were so bad they woke me up. My meds schedule is disrupted which means the AS is kicking my ass, and apparently all the stress has revved up my auto-immune situation so that there was measurable new damage over the course of Thursday).

Today, though. I am so fucked. We take the first load over and get back in to drive back to the old house for another and the starter doesn't turn over. I correctly assume the battery is drained. A nice lady gives us directions to a cheap battery place and jump. This is an excellent place, cheap, friendly, honest, and full of locals. No frills and everything I want in a mechanic. They basically just do tires and batteries. There is an understandably long long line, but our guy is intelligent, charming and looks like a taller Ty from Almighty Johnsons. I am not panicked at this point. We do not need a new battery, just refurbishing on corroded wires. I give him my toilet paper money for the month, which is cheap for a thing that will fix my car. It turns out we need a new grounding wire, which is not a thing they do there, but he estimated we had about a year to raise the money before it failed, so the day is still going reasonably well, considering. We'd lost a couple hours and my toilet paper, we had plenty of time for moving everything they had packed already.

I try to start the car. It doesn't. He figures out it's a sticky...some word I'd never heard of for a part attached to the starter? Anyway, he showed us where to bang to get the car to start. We drive away.

I get pulled over for speeding leaving Ferndale, which is very much my fault. My instinct is to speed up once we are over the bridge and into the country straight away, so I tend to speed up about half a mile too soon. especially sleep deprived, exhausted, having only had a nasty granola bar too eat as I hadn't time to eat before I left, plus the whole long drive over back roads broken car stress. I am white and I wasn't going that far above the limit, and I do well with polite and contrite when confronted with cops. I know it's a white privilege thing and I feel terrible about this working for me when I know if I were Native or black the whole thing would have been potentially life threatening and at minimum expensive. It's also a class privilege thing, which I also feel shitty about. I am poor and have been my whole life, but I code switch like a champ thanks to my accent and schooling. I feel shitty about taking advantage of something that everyone should have, which is decent treatment by police, but we were looking at this month's car insurance money if I got a ticket, so... polite and contrite and code switched up the class scale and mention being stressed about car trouble and let him let me off.

The car doesn't start. I pop the hood and hobble 'round back and the cop watches me grab the tire ion and hobble it back to the front. I wang the thing. I start the car and close the hood and put the tire iron up front, knowing I'll need it later. I figure i nothing else, this vindicates in his head that my day really was made of shit before he stopped me. This is still not disastrous. I kept my car insurance money. I can live with wanging the car to start it every time.

We get back to the house. I top the car and realise I forgot to roll down the stupid power window. Car won't start. Pop hood, wang the thing, leaving the hood open as we'll need to wang it to leave. Car doesn't start.

Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck.

Correctly reasoning that there is a chance that it worked at the mechanic because the super long wait with the hood popped let it cool down (parts expand in the heat. It is a hot day and driving long distances heats a car right up even on a cold one and it might be enough to through something already dicey enough off to bork it), I settled under a tree with my book for an hour or so. I weighed the advantage of going straight home vs stopping halfway for free fluid top off and waiting an hour or so for the car to cool down enough to start. I opted for the fluids. The distance being shorter the wait was shorter, but enough to alarm the fluid jockeys. I assured them it was fine and would start once it had cooled down a bit and that's why I'd stopped for fluids. (There were no warning lights and the temp gauge was low medium). I drove home.

I can't do things like forage or go for meds through stop and go traffic without scheduling in a couple extra hours for reading in allergen laden air with the hood open or every stop. It's not tenable.

I've no real idea what fixing it will cost. I suspect the part won't be too bad, but the part looks well embedded, which I bet means labor cost'll be in the 3-5 hundred range at honest downtown mechanic. I don't know, of course, but say, not paying rent and possibly bills for a month is not option.

Fuck. Fuckity fuck.

Why can't I take the bus? I don't have 50ish dollars a month to throw away and the bus doesn't let out anywhere close to where I need to go, which means every single trip to do anything involves literal miles of painful gimping to and fro, plus I can't buy more than a back pack full of groceries at a time, which means gimping these long distances over and over with weights. There is a special bus for disabled people that actually takes you where you want to go. I've waited close to a decade to hear back about my application, so I'm guessing that's a no and we're still talking a back pack plus whatever I can balance on my head while gimping. (I am not skilled on the level of the people who have to tote giant jugs of water, but If a thing is not too heavy, like a forage box or the water for my plants I put it on my head with a steadying hand in case my balance wavers and I can manage sort distances , which are longer than I can manage one handed without doing it that way.) So I can use the fix route bus at the price of not being able to do anything else that day and the next and possibly the one after (including things like making food and doing dishes) for things like the doctor and library, but not really for things like forage or grocery shopping. I become trapped in my house, as even small simple trips involve enough advanced planning for me to save up spoons for there and back again and to clear everything else until I recover enough to cope...

Fucked.

On the upside, they’ve got someone else with a car to help them next week, so all that was lost as far as getting them moved somewhere safe was a day of hauling.

* I finally finished Blacklist. You have to understand, I am 100% team Mr. Kaplan, and I stopped giving a fart about Red the second he put a bullet in her head. I actually guessed a big chuck of the season arc, though not all the twists, and I had hoped for a different ending. (The Dembe thing was so transparent as to not even count as a twist as I guessed how that would play out the moment I grasped the scenario basics, but I did not guess Wressler's old partner would turn up or the end of season stupidity, so not 100%, but I'd guess maybe 80%? Certainly I guessed who Red was under attack by and the broad outlines of where it would go). I did love the all Mr. Kaplan episode and pretty much all her things worked for me, except the very end which was clumsy. I did like how Samar and Aram resolved. (Earlier seasons it wouldn't have worked for me, but the power balance equalized and it works for me now). I am not sure if the show is worth watching another season without Mr. Kaplan, as I'm not convinced the other characters are enough to make me want to put up with Reddington. He was musing for a few seasons, but it's reached the point where I just want him dead now and Dembe and off with his family away from the creepy codependent life endangering bullshit. I want the team to go off and have careers that don't corrupt them the way this does. I want this show over and done the way I wish someone would put Supernatural out of it's misery. I only barely managed to get through Redemption, despite a lot of talented acting and eye candy. It just didn't gel for me and I'm struggling to remember how they left it.

Liz should have picked her. Task force should have switched. Kate Kaplan could do all Red can do plus more plus she still has resources, plus she’d be able to do it while giving up killing people which long term solves the whole supporting a criminal enterprise, plus why in hell would they want anything to do with a man who’ use Liz as bait? Not forgivable. A friend points out they could have switched up the sides and had Reddington be the villain for a season, which would have been a cool parallel and let them keep a one of a kind character in play while still keeping Reddington’s ratings. It would have let Liz have some basic principles inculcated early her nanny instead of Red being her “real” sperm donor over riding everything, which is better drama and more interesting anyway. “In fact, she could have considered it incumbent upon her //as his daughter// to put a stop to his antics.” Thank you friend for pointing it out.

I just... meh. They had one canonically queer character on the show and unless they find a way to resurrect her twice in two years.... I think I have to be done.

There has never been a character like Kate Kaplan on TV. Seriously, name me one other elderly dangerous principled queer woman mastermind on all of TV? She was the only one anywhere and they FRIDGED her.

* There have been two more ebola cases in Mali. They are not connected to the first case. An infected man arrived from Guinea. A nurse treated him caught it and has now died.

* 13 women are dead from infections related to botched sterilizations in India. More than fifty were taken one hospital alone, with more taken yo other hospitals. The scale of this is horrifying. Authorities are investigating the state run health camp responsible. It sounds like there might be a similar problem in a different camp.

* I am not in good shape physically. Let me explain. It reached the point I was scared to use the car at all. One of Squirrel's friends came through with a thirty+ year old car that sort of works. It needs work, which we can't afford. It doesn't lock and in needs a tune up, but more crucially, the power steering is out. Picture me spending 5-10 minutes trying to wrestle it out of parking spaces by brute strength with my spinal damage and a month and a half plus of lung infection and a week or so of being too sick to sleep more than a couple of hours at a time. It thrashes the fuck out of my body and I need serious medication after driving it. Monday, I had a whole bunch of time dependent things needing doing ASAP. Tuesday I was too sick to sleep properly. Wednesday morning there was an exhausting and painful early morning trip to put my car in hock. (I managed to pull some key muscles in my torso driving Squirrel's car. Wheee)! It is going to take $200.00 I do not have to get it out. My mechanic guessed 100-500 depending on the specific thing wrong with the electrical system, so it being about 200 is a win, however, he says we very near term need to sort out a problem that could turn out dangerous. I was too sleepy to ask what that will cost. I ought to call my mechanic tomorrow and get an estimate from him as it's his bailiwick. I got about an hour of nap interrupted by several phone calls. (Time share cold call autodialers need to be outlawed). Then I was up to do a Knighting on gob I committed to before knowing the terrible things about to happened to my body this week. The Knighting was sweet and heartwarming. Then to more wildly disrupted sleep, made worse by me not daring to take the good pain meds in case I had to go anywhere.

Which brings us to tonight and tomorrows physical challenge. Yesterday I got notice that they had lied about not taking out our windows for the construction. Surprise! At some random time Thursday they are taking out the windows. This means we can have nothing near the windows. Like a 20 gallon fish tank, for example. I have no one to help me with this. There is no chance of me managing the 30 gallon, the tall twenty, and my bed (all of which are in the 3' zone, but even if it were physically possible for me to move bed or 30 by myself there is no where for them to go. remember I have all the patio furniture and gardening stuff stored in here because of the construction. I can barely get around these obstacles as it is.), or the air conditioner in the bedroom window. I can only hope they will put the air conditioner back when they are done as it is physically impossible for me to do it. When I got up, I cleared the fan station and the keepsake boxes that still need fine sorting I haven't gotten around to.

Somehow, I must move the long twenty by tomorrow, again by myself. The plan is to clear the coffee table and put the tank on that, then move the stand to... I have no idea. Fun! I can move the long twenty easily with a second person. (I bail out most of the water first). Alone? There is a real chance of my hurting myself and/or smashing the tank. Which is heavily inhabited. I can see no way around the problem.

Icing on the cake? No sleep tomorrow for either of us as we not only have to be up for this, but with men using power tools in our bedrooms sleep will be completely impossible. The poor cats are going to have to be locked in bathrooms, which is going to mean likely days of panic and disruption for hector and lots of LM taking her distress out on him.

I am exhausted and in an astonishing amount of pain. Breathing is rather a struggle, but I'm not quite sick enough after the last antibiotics didn't quite do it to make a sample, which means I am daily tempted to start the next course without sample which I know is a bad idea. There is a reason they trust me with emergency PRN narcotics and advance antibiotic prescriptions. I really do follow doctors orders orders and I really do have the discipline to hold off taking things I know will make me feel better for very good reasons.

I hate being emotional and this level of pain and sick really fucks with my equilibrium. This is all untenable. I need my car back so I don't get worn down and injured every time I leave the house. I need to get sick enough so I can make the damned sample so I can start getting better.

By the time Squirrel first noticed he was sick, odds are it was too late. He is still at the vet while Squirrel decides what to do.

If you've been to our house, he's likely the first cat you met. He's the big sweet tempered tuxedo who'd trot over to see if you would be his friend. Everyone was his friend. He has always been our forever kitten. He never could get his head around the idea that he had volume, mass a velocity, which lead to a lot of accidental destruction. Anything he could find was a toy and anyone he met, human or cat his new best fried. He lived for food and cuddles. His favorite thing in the world is bundling up with his sister for grooming and naps. He didn't understand cat cat politics and would snuggle with and cogroom with the senior beasties as much as they'd let him. He loved exploring and hated the tether. He couldn't understand that anything in the world could hurt him or wish him harm.

We will all miss him so much. I have no idea what his sister will do without him.
