* Wednesday I spaced a Doctor's appointment. (In my defense, I was very aware of it Monday and planning to go, but they never sent a reminder call and scheduling on Tuesday and Wednesday was tight, so it just fell out of my head with all the other stuff I needed to remember). I remembered it about an hour too late. Sigh. The reschedule and the long wait times between nurse and doctor because they were squeezing me into cracks meant I only got a few hours of sleep.

Add to this that all the gimping about Wednesday led to my dicey left hip joint trying to dislocate itself later that night, which is a thing it just sort of does periodically, but hadn't for several years. The pain of even a failed dislocation is stunningly painful and means the leg stops being load bearing sporadically. Luckily, Thursday it waited until I was parked at home to make another series of attempts to escape it's socket. (This has to do with my AS made worse by things like the distance running and ballet in my youth. My cartilage is under constant attack by my immune system. Yes, I know this isn't a problem most people have. It was always the left hip joint that used to pop out. I think I must have done extra damage to it in my teens somehow). The weather being changeable enough to ramp my arthritis pain level way up is not helping either and is likely contributing though I can't prove it. I just know when I dislocate, it tends to be in autumn or Winter.

Also, I needed head Millennial for an essential project, which meant I needed to bail the tanks myself (Nearby Millennial is the best at all the other tank cleaning components, which I flat out can't do since the AS started gnawing that shoulder joint which sent the fragile right shoulder joint. Normally Head Millennial does the bailing when things are running smoothly, as it's something Nearby Millennial absolutely can't do), into it's own exciting pain Wednesday night. Luckily this is more remediable than the hip joint thing, and the measures I took Wednesday night moved it make into the unpleasanter end of functional, which is really all I could ask for given the givens.

So I've been a serious mess physically for a couple of days, add in the lack of sleep and the way the need to get to the appointment on short notice threw my meds schedule into chaos and basically, I'm just trying to stay up late enough that Friday will still work and doing stuff that doesn't require too much eye focus.

* Over the weekend we managed to nearly finish decorating for Phase II, and on Sunday a friend came to visit. Livia is still full of complaints about the lack of live mice in food deliveries, but there is nothing to be done.

* I've been having a particularly bad chronic pain week, made worse by the nobody will let me sleep thing. I'm getting Police union auto-dialers from at least three different zip codes and as between them they have about twenty and I can only block 25 numbers, every time I block one another one wakes me up later. I wish there were a do not call list for police unions, but... America. they called twice today. It was so bad Thursday and Friday that after call five Friday, Tavy stood on my hip and complained angrily until I hung up. There were four more calls to come in the next couple hours including two separate calls from my dentist reminding me of the same appointment, one live and one robo.

I'm also getting daily harassment from a robot claiming to be a pharmacy, which insists on calling me every morning between 9-9:30AM wanting me to get up, find pen and paper and in the short time it takes for the robot to read the number, and write down their number and call them back, you know, exactly the way scammers trying to steal your social security or credit card numbers like to do. I haven't blocked them on the grounds that I haven't heard from lung ampule people for a while and it's just possible they subcontracted out. Medicare advantage does the same thing some times, you see. They like to wake me up once or twice a day with a rambling generic robot message that doesn't properly identify themselves and what they want in the thirty seconds before I hang up. Eventually they give up and have a live person call and properly identify themselves. So I tend not to block medical type things that behave like that on the off it actually is Medicare being too lazy to properly contact me. I hoping if that's what's going on here, do that before I have to start a game of phone tag with the wildly incompetent folks at lung medicine head office. which took most of a month last time my machine died.

* I voted Saturday. Yes, it's election season again. I know people have trouble caring about off year elections, but state and local elections have a massive effect on your quality of life. My ballot had a ton of initiatives and common sense tax stuff needing affirming. Turn out matters. My ballot had a ton of local and county offices that very much mattered for issues like affordable housing and environmental measures.

Don't sleep on this election. Republicans are pushing hard most places to take over state election positions with partisan extremists who want to end democracy. They are packing school boards with people who want to censor history and thing that you need to teach "The other side of the holocaust." Who your sheriff is can make the difference between mental health and drug diversion vs. Stop and frisk.

Don't sleep on this, I beg you. People sleeping on state level elections is why so many states are getting extreme racial gerrymandering next year.

* I am worried about Tavy. He slipped past Squirrel when he came home from work a few days ago, and I didn't notice until after lung time. Late Saturday, he got diarrhea. He slept most of Sunday and was still ill. He's drinking lots of water and is behaving normally while awake, but not eating much and is low energy for him. I'm worried he ate something he shouldn't while he was lose in the pre-dawn or caught a paracite from one of the complex dogs, since a lot of the owners are too lazy to toss their feces in the receptacle.

I'll see how how is tomorrow. I definitely can't afford the vet and squirrel is skint this month. *digits cruciform*

They are escorting the Medusan ambassador to the Federation home. Humans can't talk to the Medusans face to face as sight of the Medusan driving them insane. Spock must wear a visors, though there is concern about his human half. The Medusan is traveling in a future tech cat carrier apparently with Larry and Miranda. The cat carrier opens. Spock flinches, but gazes on the entity for a while. He tells Miranda, the woman assisting the Ambassador that he envies her assignment. The Assistant tries to touch his mind. She seems to project her envy on Spock. Clue number one. Apparently he telepathy is why he studies on Vulcan. She wishes she could see the Medusan.

They have a dinner party where they discuss Vulcan telepathy and the need to block out other's thoughts. Miranda takes a badge he wore in honor of her as a taunt. Clue number 2. Bones argues that Vulcan is boring and that the Medusans must be evil because they are ugly. Spock keeps gently rebuking McCoy instead of slapping him. Spock is a better man than I. Kirk calls beauty the last prejudice, but then toasts Miranda's beauty. Bones is racist and paternalistic. Miranda rebukes him on the racism. Miranda says she senses someone thinking about murder, but can't say who. She rebuffs Bones' attempt to escort her to her room. Scotty invites the other guy that came with the Medusan to go drinking, but he too turns down the offer. Bones says she's 'disturbing' possibly because she doesn't want to fuck. *side eye*

Larry has a deep crush on Miranda and is losing his shit because she's going to live with the Medusa instead of having sex with him. He kisses her. she is not into it and tells him to leave. She now knows the murdery feelings and envy are from Larry. The Creep. He goes to murder the Medusa out of sexual jealousy, thus seeing the Medusa and going violently mad. He runs around attacking people. Miranda tells the feds about Larry.

Larry the Incel turns up at engineering. Scotty gives him the controls before the announcement of Larry's homicidal insanity comes over. He knocks out Scotty and starts driving the Enterprise dangerously fast. He sends them beyond the galaxy boundaries before they subdue him. He is raving about dreams. Only Miranda can calm him. He thinks about the Medusa, they calls her a liar and tries to kill her, but he dies instead. Everything just stopped.

So now they are lost in space. (Danger Will Robinson). It's a void. they can't recross the barrier in sub-light and the sensory distortion in warp makes navigating impossible. The only solution is a mindlink with the Medusan which Spock suspects Dr. Miranda Jones won't allow. Kirk volunteers to distract her with a date to the arboretum. *side eye* Kirk tries to talk her out of her asexuality. *side eye* She doesn't enjoy other people's violent emotions and finds the Medusans restful. Kirk keeps trying to seduce her anyway, insulting her Medusan friend. Asshole.

Miranda works out what Spock is planning and tries to take his place. he points out she doesn't know how to pilot the ship. Bones points out a blind person can't fly the ship. (He'd been keeping her blindness private because ethics, but he couldn't let her endanger the ship). Her dress contains a sensor web. Kirk works out she hides her blindness to avoid pity. She insists. Kirk says to ask the Medusan, who says no.

Spock mind melds with the Medusan and the two become one. The blend quotes Byron at Uhura and the Tempest at Miranda. They navigate back to entry point, at which point the Medusan waxes poetic about the wonder of being embodied but also the intense loneliness of it. Spock goes to put the entity back in the cat carrier, but forgets his visor. He goes berserk and Kirk has to stun him. Nimoy's performance in this scene is really beautiful, with all the switches back and forth in both personality and emotion.

Miranda is Spock's only hope, via Mind Meld. Kirk gets impatient and finds her in there without her net. Kirk thinks she should wake him with a kiss then accuses her of trying to kill Spock. She goes all the way down, risking them both. Spock recovers. Kirk gives Miranda a rose and she goes off to live with the aliens. She and Spock respect each other now.

The men (except Spock are just really gross in this one.

* As exhausting as clearing the storage unit is proving to be, I have to admit unpacking the books was fun. It was like a combination of opening wonderful presents and seeing old friends.

* Last year, I couldn't find my thesis on my hard drive or in the place I used to keep the hard copy. I thought I'd never see it again because it's trapped behind a pay wall. I found a hard copy in the great storage document sort. I must have packed in a storage box during the move to the previous apartment due to the lack of space there. It's rather a relief. I have no plans ever to read the monstrous thing again, but the bibliography is really useful when I want to look certain things up or list sources for people. With it I found one of the papers I did I was actually proud of, the one on the topic I actually wanted to do my thesis on. I vaguely remember finding my Euripides was a misogynist monster classics paper (It started as a 2 page theme on Medea at some point when I was an undergraduate. For another class I made it a five, then a ten, then every time I got assigned a theme I could fit I added another Euripedes play or two. It's not plagiarism as it was my damned paper and I always added the amount of new material assigned. It was quite large when I got my first graduate degree. If I'd stayed in academia, it would likely have grown into a book.) in the previous document sort a few weeks ago and have an even vaguer memory of the related language paper being in the batch with it. If so, I now have access to three of five things I did in college that I'm really proud of research wise. Another one might be in the stack of late Medieval/Tudor things I tossed in the academic file drawer. I know a bunch of the related materials to it ended up in there. It was a 40 pager on ritual as Propaganda. I did not see the Patrology/Roman history cross over one I wrote the week I had a fever varying between 102 and 104). I know, I know most of you know me as a banana fingered curmudgeon, but I'm also someone who researches things for fun and has pretty much since I learned to read. I LIKE being able to through together a good reading list if someone asks me for one. I LIKE being able to pull the right reference off my shelves to settle an argument or look up a half remembered fact when I'm writing something or plotting for a game I'm running.

* Apparently Agents of SHEILD is still on the air. I assumed it had to have been cancelled by now. Is anyone still watching it? Did it get any better? Did they reveal how they resurrected Phil? Have they told him he was dead yet? I'm vaguely curious, but not enough to sit through an episode.

* Today was a special kind of hard. It was hot enough that I felt like I had a fever, so my sleep was broken and strange. I was only scheduled for a few hours anyway as I needed to be dressed and coherent if the furniture guys hit the beginning instead of end of their window. The phone woke me an hour early and as the buzzer if it’s finally working routes through my phone and if it isn’t, the furniture guys were going to call through it, I answered it. When no one spoke, I went out to see if they were there, but the intercom broken. As it hasn’t worked right even once, I do not trust the buzzer/intercom system. No one was there. I couldn’t get back to sleep for another couple of hours, so I read. I did finally get a light nap in, but the phone and Hector ensured it was not restful or continuous.

The guys did show up, but at the wrong building. I found them fairly quickly. The little bookcases were unwrapped and easy to put in place. It was a massive effort for me to unpack the tall ones, at which point I discovered they had helpfully set them up upside down. I am nowhere near as strong as I was even two years ago, as I’ve had one sort of lung/sinus/ear infection or another for nearly all that time, so swimming hasn’t been a thing I can do. Trying to flip massive wood bookcases by myself nearly did me in.

It was at this point, with the spoons nearly all burned I realized that there was no point in going further without purchasing two new extremely expensive power strips with extra long cords, so off to ACE. (The workers at ACE asked, “What project are you working on today?” I’ve been there so much in the last year between the garden and the move that they know me by name. *facepalm*) Much bookcase wiggling and reorganizing later, I now have the wall ‘o TV and fish tanks set up in a more convenient way, but I’m very close to out of spoons. I sat down to do my lung treatment. Hector “helpfully” ripped down the central living room curtains, exposing me to my neighbors as I was in my underwear. When I went over there to sort that out, he used the distraction to “steal” my tea or the second time that afternoon, knocking it all over the floor, I guess because I hadn’t mopped up enough tea today. I want a nap, but there is no way the endorphins and Hector would let me and I should probably eat so I can have arthritis meds. Also, I haven’t organized my desk to deal with the new short case instead of the long shelf, nor cleared the kitchen counter so I can use the long shelf for more kitchen storage, and I really should move the game books to the new, better sized shelving. I really could use help, but Squirrel came out briefly to take out the boxes and I can’t reasonably wake him up to help me move things.

Steps left in move: 1. Unpack boxes for desk and book shelves. 2. Last cleaning of old apartment once Squirrel moves his stuff out. 3. Raid and reorganize upstairs storage again. 4. Raid off site storage, sort, and move a bunch of it over here. I’d love to move all the storage here, but am no holding my breath. This is a big job requiring at least two people and likely more than one trip.
