* 45 fantasized on twitter that President Obama personally had him wiretapped during the election even though the President doesn't have the power to do that. We know 45 always accuses others of doing whatever horrible thing he himself is doing or planning to do, so I am now wondering who he is trying to get wire tapped, presumable through Comey or Sessions. There is also the question of why so paranoid? What illegal, damning thing was he doing just before the election that has him so worried that he's inventing this story about Obama in the middle of the night?

Look, I am 100% against warrantless wiretapping, but I also know I've never done anything illegal on a phone and anyone tapping me would get me repeatedly telling phone beggars I'm on a fixed income don't call again, a bunch of pharmacy voicemails about boring prescription renewals, and a scattering of doctor appointment calls and people telling me they are running late or no coming. If they are tapping me, they are bored the fuck to tears. I don't lie awake at night terrorized over it, nor do I run around accusing innocent people of targeting me personally based on things I dreamed or made up.

* I've said before that my ballet education is spotty. My ballet education growing up was how to dance and whatever happened to be in TV in my region in the 70's and '80's, plus one trip to see Carmina Burana and the Trocks in person. The tragedy of me watching ballet is I can never enjoy watching it the way I did dancing it, but I have been watching it this year. I'd never even heard of Ashton until 6 months ago, though I certainly knew who Pepita, Nijinsky, and Balanchine were. If Ashton was on TV when I was young, I never noticed. My first exposure was a few clips before Christmas. My first full ballet of his was La Fille Mal Gardée a month or two ago. It was fascinating in it's way (Dancing Chickens! Giant dancing cock!), but the costumes and set were rather busy, which I felt detracted from the dancing. The dancing was so hard I got exhausted just watching. Seriously, I could feel the ache of the choreography in my muscles. It's fast and complex and the sort of thing that takes a huge about of endurance. I could tell just watching it, that you needed a really strong grounding in the less glamorous bits of ballet, huge self discipline, and soooo much practice to make it work and look right. I am absolutely not saying the Royal ballet dancers made it look hard, because they didn't, they were trying to make it look light and fun the way one is meant to. I am saying that I may have forgotten a lot of the vocabulary, but my body remembers what dancing felt like watching that choreography I imagined the ache and burn in the legs after practice. I am a philistine, but I know enough to be impressed even when the aesthetics aren't to my taste.

Anyway, I spent the evening watching the Trocks, followed by an Ashton sampler that was recommended to me. The Trocks were the Trocks, fun and impressive the way Trocks are always fun and impressive. The Ashton Celebration... wow. I am watching these pieces with zero context, as I'm not seen the ballets they are from, have no idea what the plot is or why what is happening is happening. The set is a very simple backdrop, the costumes so far are lovely and elegant. (I did not quite finish before coming out to eat.) The much simpler setting and the easier to look at more harmonious costumes made it so much easier to focus properly on the dancing, which is excellent and impressive. The second piece, a pas de deux from Thaïs, was incredibly moving even though I had no information about what story in fit into, but really, the three I've watched so far were a joy to watch even if they did make my legs ache in sympathy.

* Re: Ashley Madison. I don't have any skin in this game. I have never cheated, not have I been cheated on, though I have been in a lot of relationships with negotiated openness of one type or another. I am a believer in ethical polyamory, not cheating. In a Modern American context, there are very few circumstances that excuse it. We no longer have arranged marriages. no fault divorce is the law of the land. People whom can not split up for reasons such as finances, children, serious medical issues, etc. can use their damned words and work out an open marriage arrangement like sensible adults. I do think that in times, countries, and circumstances that are coercive, where people really don't have options, cheating, while not ideal is acceptable. I think those conditions apply rarely in this country now. It is completely unacceptable to subject a partner to risk without consent, with the obvious exception of a situation where a person is being coerced to stay and they that isn't a partner, that is a rapist. Otherwise, leave or use your words. Like a grown up.

That said, I am also a huge fan of privacy. Showing Jennifer Lawrence's genitals to people without her consent is not okay. Showing anyone's genitals to people without their consent is never okay regardless of gender and celebrity status. Warrantless collection of email by governments is not okay. Warrantless wiretaps are not okay. Publishing someones name and address and urging people to kill them because you don't like what she said about gaming on the Internet or what he does for a living or who they sleep with is not okay. And on and on.

Publishing the names and financials etc. of people registered on Ashley Madison is not okay. Privacy trumps the fact that cheating is a shitty thing to do. Publishing someone's personal details and fucking up their whole family's lives is way shittier, especial as the financials mean you are stealing not just from the cheater but that person's spouse and children if any. You are punishing the whole family for something that is not illegal and is incredibly common. What you are doing is way shittier than whatever that cheating spouse did, it truly is.

* Today I put the altar back together. The place I have it is irregular. It was a struggle for symmetry the first time. I flat out could not figure out a way to do it this time. I decided to give up and embrace the asymmetry.

* I started Orange is the New Black. I find Piper so annoying and boring that it is often hard to watch, especially with all the episodes I've watched since Friday. I like a lot of the other characters, I really do, but I just don't care about Piper or her family and friends outside. I'm sticking with it and expect to watch out the season, likely in two batches, this being a library copy. I am invested in a bunch of the more sympathetic characters, but I expected that.

* Today Djinni, Greenwick, and I moved fish, bedding and anything else ready to go. I haven't counted heads in the long twenty, though I saw an oto on the glass as we left, but all the larger fish seemed to survive the initial shock of the move.

* By the time we got to the moving fishes, the number of misplaced documents was down to three. I just managed to narrow it down to one. The really irritating thing is I had deliberately put all the missing documents where I could find them, but they got lost in the damned move so I'm literally unpacking things and looking for places they could have gotten knocked in the shuffle. This bureaucracy pile needs to be handed in tomorrow....

* We are in crunch time moving wise, so I will likely be behind on everything including news and people's postings. If it is important and I need to know it, email or pm me. This is always faster. * The Chris Christie Highway Scandal gets worse. They now have damning emails proving his top aides were involved in grid locking that town to punish its mayor. The lane closures delayed four EMS transports. An old woman died, though it is not yet clear if she would or would not have survived if the Christie Administration wasn't being cruel, petty, and vindictive. Whether or not this lady died for Chris Christie's petty vengeance, clearly any number of people could have if they'd been unlucky enough to have a time critical medical emergency. I know this sort of thing is business as usual in the the mid-Altlantic states. I grew up on the outskirts of Mayor Rizzo's Philadelphia after all and my Jersey born and bred father was active in Pennsylvania politics. I have no illusions about corruption, graft, extortion, and how political sausages get made. (My Father was an honorable man and was strongly anti-graft, embezzlement, and corruption, but there was an awful lot of it to resist and fight. Just saying). Just because this is the way New Jersey politics normally operate doesn't make it okay and I certainly think that this sort of behavior renders a politician unfit for any office, let alone the presidency. It certainly doesn't make it okay anymore than gangs of cops betting innocent people up is never okay, even though that is generally winked at in places like my home city. This is the sort of thing we should be fighting against, not condoning.

While there is no proof one way or another that Christie ordered or didn't order the shutting down of the on ramp, the taint is certainly on him. He picked these people to be his top advisers and if he didn't directly order it, then it was the sort of thing he encouraged to the extent that they felt comfortable not only doing it, but mocking the victims. I honestly suspect he did order it, but I also suspect he was bright enough not to write the order in his official email account. Either way, odds are we'll never know. If he did order it, what does it say about his character that he was willing to sacrifice so many of his supposed friends and takes no responsibility? What does it say about his judgement that he would do such a thing while already planning to run for national office in the near future? If he didn't order it, what does it say about his qualities as a leader and an administrator that this went on anyway? If he didn't order it, what does I say about his judgement that he chose to put people who would do such a thing in positions of power and then fail to supervise them?

I hope that little old lady had friends and family. I hope that they turn up with protest signs and reporters every time he turns up in public with pictures and stories about who she was. I hope the people of New Jersey don't forget what kind of man he is and don't let the rest of us forget either. I think a Christieb presidency would be a disaster for a whole host of reasons, but the particular aspect of his character that this incident exposes is especially dangerous in one given the power to pursue petty revenge against whole states and countries with the full might of the U S military behind him. *Shudder*

And I thought a Romney residency sounded scary. The Republicans just keep surprising me this century with how every time we think we've seen the bottom of the barrel, they find someone worse.

* Re: Two Cases Involving Brain death in the News. Here's my bias: My family has always been realistic about terminal illness and death. We mourn our dead, don't get me wrong, but we never lost our closeness to it. In my family, it is normal to express one's end of life care wishes, and if a situation is not covered in previous conversations and a person can no longer say what they want, the adults get together and discuss what so and so would best want based on expressed wishes. If a person says, "No more surgery" or "no more chemo" we all switch to aggressive pain management and making what time the person has left as wonderful as possible. We do not cling. We weep and then do what needs to be done to make them comfortable. If someone is no longer in there, we grieve and let them die. It isn't cruel; it is what we want for ourselves.

In the case of the woman in Texas being kept alive against her previously expressed wishes and those of her husband and the family so she can serve as an incubator for a fetus? There are no words for my outrage. DNR for an adult should trump anything. In the absence of an advance directive, the husband/wife/family should have the final say. In the case of a minor child, the parents or custodial parent or guardian should have the final say. The state has no business stepping between a family and the person who is no longer their. the State has no business inflicting this agony on a family. The State damned well better be paying every penny of the hospital bill and I think that the State of Texas owes that widower a vast some of money for the extra stress and misery they are inflicting on him to no good purpose.

As to the equally tragic case in California, I think the young girl's family are in deep denial and lying to themselves, but I honestly think they have the right to lie to themselves like that. She was their daughter and they should have the final say in what happens to her. If they need more time, they need more time.

Just as I believe in the right of a family to pull the plug, I believe in the right f the family not to pull the plug. Yes, even if I and my family would chose differently in the same circumstances.

That goes double in a situation where there is a long history of abuse of the community in question by authorities in general and Doctors in particular. In a circumstance where there is a couple of hundred years of abuse by medical authorities, skepticism is a natural response and I think that it behooves medical authorities to be extra careful about consent given the long ugly history in this country of lying to patients and doing horrific things to people without their consent. There should be a high standard in this area anyway. I'm just saying it better be diamond standard when dealing with members of any of the wide variety of communities that have been abused in the recent past. (I felt a similar way about ethics in teaching when I was teaching. Kidnapping to boarding schools is living memory around here and adults had completely reasonable fears about how we were treating their children. I was big on ethical teaching generally, but given the history of truly horrific abuse, I felt that going however many extra miles it took for them and their children to feel safe in our buildings was still not enough, really). Taking away people's agency when it comes to the fate of their children is never okay and it further endangers not just the people having their agency snatched away from them, but scares other people away from getting medical help (or education if it's school situation). How many more people are going to be scared to take their children to the Doctor after they hear what happened to that little girl in California? How many will die or experience unnecessary misery because they are worried the Doctors will take away their control over what happens to them or their children?

* I caught a few hours sleep, then went across to let the bed men in. It was the right bed this time. As I had only seen it in pictures, I miss- estimated how tall it is. Like the rest of the apartment, it is clearly on a scale expecting someone over 6' tall rather than of my size, which is weird, if you consider that this is meant to be an ADA compliant place. I'd already bought a sturdy little step later so I could use the kitchen. I now need it to get into bed. O.o Luckily, I can slide out of bed without the stairs, assuming my legs hold when I land. Ace didn't have the right sort of ladder, though I picked up one anyway. I'll need to check Home Depot or go back to the Coop for another tiny stair if there isn't anything more suitable there. The bed is huge. I will need to measure the 30 gallon and the dressers to see if any of them fit in there at all. I may need to rethink nearly everything. The under bed storage is likely where most of my clothes will need to go the way things are going. The bed is ridiculously comfortable with lots of room for meds and bedside books. I have already picked out where the cats treats are going to live. I am not convinced Mache will be able to get in and out on her own, which is a worry, hence the need to find a sturdy wide stepped ladder she and I can both use safely. While they were building the bed, I sorted more things in the kitchen and bathroom and started organizing fish furniture. I am so tired. I was up late on the document hunt, which proved partially unsuccessful. Sigh.

After a med and cat calming break, Greenwick and I did yet more work on breaking down the kitchen. Then we took a load over in what turned out to be alarmingly high wind. Greenwick painted the bathroom while I set up my bedroom and puttered about sorting and putting things away. The tape measure tells me the bed room situation may not be as bad as I thought it might be. I may end up not being able to use all the drawers on all the things, but the important things likely will fit in there where I can use them.

I still feel rather like Princess and the Pea up there, but I'm thinking about how to make the situation work.

I am too tired for document hunt and bureaucracy and I am running out of time. Fuck!

* All that's really needed to save the post office is to repeal the Bush era law requiring them to pay pensions 75 years in advance and going back to the sensible system under which they were solvent, letting them take back the extra money for postal workers not yet born, let alone hired. Of course there is no chance of that since the law was intended by Republicans to bankrupt them, thus creating the crisis that will allow them to abolish the efficient, well run postal system in favour of folks like Fed ex, which is in the habit of dropping off packages at random houses in random streets and expecting the people that live there to mapquest where i live and go to the hassle of delivering, all for significantly more than USPS costs. Or there UPS, with the delivery people to dumb to read our "please ring bell" sign, who are also in the habit, of knocking once, then leaving without waiting for me to gimp to the door. * Marine Rob phoned. He and his wife split up, but he's found a good teaching job in Alaska he likes. We talked for a couple of hours, which put me behind on the Internet, so if it's important, PM me.

* I got up very early for an appointment that turned out cancelled, only I didn't know that until i was too awake too long to go right back to sleep. The apartment I was going to look at went before my appointment with them. I did catch Squirrel's package delivery, so that's something. I opted to go back to sleep rather than do more apartment hunting today, as I don't function well at all on only a couple hours sleep.

* I can't wait for Comedy central roast season to be over. On top of my usual issues (I don't much like insult humor. I do find a couple of them interesting for reasons of psychology, pop cultural history, etc., but most of the people they pick are so unpleasant I want nothing to do with them and my tolerance for racist, sexist, etc., jokes is low), I have a bad reaction to Ozzy Osbourne/black Sabbath. I know, I know, I've a large metal collection. You'd think he'd be up my alley, but back when I was building my collection, I found Ozzy and to a lesser extent Black Sabbath triggery. The Iron Man movie did me a great service by diffusing "Iron Man." which was the most triggery of all. "Crazy Train" was a really close second. Apparently 23 years and the movie have worked together to downgrade "Crazy Train" from so intense I can't be in the room with it, to a merely unpleasant trip to a bad emotional place with a collection of ugly memories and associations attached.

With that in mind, imagine me having to hear it as a tag in every commercial break on comedy central for the stupid Sheen Roast, which I refuse to watch even a second of because I don't approve. (It's not okay to exploit someone's mental illness like that). Imagine me waking up in the morning with it playing in my head. Imagine me spending an hour trying to wipe it from my brain with the usually reliable Presidents of the United states songs so i can focus enough to sleep again.

Yeah.

Like I need this stress on top of the whole not knowing where I'll be living in October.

* Anthony Weiner's seat just fell to a Republican.

* In Pennsylvania, the Republicans are planning to change the law so instead of the electoral votes going with the popular vote, they are changing the weighting to make suburban votes count more than urban votes, in the hopes of denying Obama electoral votes next year. After all, in Republican minds, white votes should be worth more than brown and black ones, and way more POc live in cities than suburbs in Pennsylvania. This is part of the republican national strategy to disenfranchise as many POc as possible.

How far the party of Lincoln has fallen. I suspect poor Thaddeus Stevens is spinning in his grave.

* Many of you have likely never heard of Thaddeus Stevens. He is the Pennsylvania politician of whom I am most proud. He was the leader of the most radical Republicans in the house during Reconstruction. He, along with Charles Sumner in the Senate, worked tirelessly to try to redress the wrongs our country had done to African Americans, fighting hard for equal rights for people in this country regardless of the colour of their skin. When he died, he requested to be buried in a black cemetery at a time when cemeteries were segregated even in the North, because he believed people should be equal in death as well as in life and that segregation was fundamentally wrong.

With him died Radical Reconstruction, and the only concerted effort to make the wrongs done to African Americans right until the civil Rights Era of the 1960's. After him, Congress let go the idea of equality and let the south build Jim Crow and all the horrors and humiliations that went hand in hand. After him, the federal Government stopped fighting KKK terrorism. Many have speculated that if he'd lived for one more term, things in this country would have been radically different and so much better. Most of a century of of atrocities and disenfranchisement might have been avoided.

* Remember that white supremacist attempted bombing at the MLK parade in Spokane? He pleaded guilty. Y'all know I'm no fan of the FBI, but they did a good job on this one.
