* Every time I think of Woodrow Wilson, I get angry all over again. He did such long term damage to this country. He stirred up Nativist violence in response to World War One. People were killed then. His rhetoric primed the country for the waves of anti- black and anti-immigrant violence after the war, and I suspect this was a contributing factor to making Birth of a Nation so popular and thus the effective recruiting tool for the Klan, reviving it from obscurity and leading to a century of violence and counting. He struck a powerful blow against the black middle class by instituting Federal level segregation, which meant the firing of all the black civil servants, thus putting the final nail in Reconstruction's coffin and robbing African Americans of the wealth and prosperity those jobs had brought, the equity in houses, the higher education for their children, and this discrimination extends forward, as each generation lost it's chance at middle class jobs and thus keeping people in poverty because Wilson was a racist white Southerner who felt like spreading injustice wherever he could. He decided that soldiers of colour should be treated like garbage by civilians and if they fought back, they'd be arrested not their attackers, and his policies of mistreating them lead to their shameful treatment after discharge. There was the nascent police state, the Espionage and Sedition acts, where people were arrested and sent to prison for crimes such as complaining about the NY subway being late and slow, the widespread fear that anything one said or did, no matter how innocent, could suddenly be declared a crime worth a twenty year stretch. And on and on, so much damage we still are dealing with.

* Today I went out for LM's cat food. Thank you cat food benefactor. The rest of the afternoon involved paper bureaucracy and small needful things about the house and in the container garden. I have been futzing about all week trying to maximize sun exposure, turning and moving pots, weeding, etc.. It looks like the big annual exterior refurbishment is over, for which I am grateful. They were kind about saving the loud equipment for afternoons, and doing quiet bits in the morning, but not having a small army of even extremely polite and helpful workmen about is more relaxing. Anyway, the additional paperwork seemed all correct, so I sent it off to the feds. I am skint for the rest of the month, but barring emergencies, we should be fine.

* I keep thinking how much better the Tudors would have been if Toby Stephens had played Henry instead of Johnathan Rhys Meyers. Look, I loved Johnathan Rhys Meyers in Velvet Goldmine, but he didn't play Henry; he played a generic King. While he's physically wrong for the part, I could see him doing a solid Edward I, but he's not Henry VIII. I am willing to bet that Toby Stephens would have done a brilliant Henry VIII, because he has way more range as an actor, and could bring that range and nuance to the role instead of the one note adamantine hard performance that makes Tudors so hard to watch. Look, I am fundamentally on the side of the wives. Yes, all of them. People like to play Anne against Catherine, Jane against Anne, etc. as they have been since this was current events. Male historians in particular like to attack Catherine of Aragon for a variety of reasons both religious and misogynistic, just as they love to attack Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard for their sexuality, and divide the wives alone Madonna/Whore lines. Fuck that. I have huge empathy for all six of them, because all of them were in a terrible, eventually terrifying position, and really only Anne of Cleves won, as even though Catherine Howard miraculously survived her second to last husband, her whole life was a fucking tragedy because patriarchy and the ambition of her family, and even though she finally got to marry the man she'd wanted to since her teens it didn't turn out well for her. Anyway, I want to make clear that I'm not even a little okay with Henry's treatment of any of the women in his life, but even though he ended up a terrifying abusive monster, he didn't start out that way. Catherine of Aragon's husband started out as the flower of chivalry, a man who could joust, dance, write music and theology. He could be charming and seductive when he wanted to be. That actually makes it all so much scarier from Catherine's perspective, when her philandering, but courtly husband who used to write her love songs suddenly turns on her like that. It rather explains her insistence that this was just a phase and he'd come back. Anne Boleyn had no reason to think the charming man who wooed her and loved her so intently would have her murdered in a few short years. (I'm firmly in the Anne was innocent camp for a whole bunch of reasons i don't want to get into). Show us the intelligence and the surface charm, show us a bit of vulnerability, then show how the combination of power, mid-life crisis, political considerations, ingrained patriarchal beliefs, privilege, entitlement, a fundamental misogyny lying under the surface, and a serious head injury combined to create a nightmare for wives, mistresses, courtiers, etc.. Show us a horrible transformation that has happened and will happen on a smaller scale throughout time, because so many people don't get the boiling lobster aspect of it. Men turn this way on their partners all the time, but they generally start out charming, funny, etc. and can and do hide the worst they are capable of from the world and from the person they are going to victimize. The red flags tend to be few and small to start out with. There are honeymoon periods when they pour on the charm between incidents. There's often a power imbalance making it hard to leave. Show us that in Henry VIII, because it's THAT kind of horror story. Show us how, after a certain point, women are terrified to say no and terrified to say yes when he wants them for wives or mistresses, because assuredly they were. Show us the whole process, instead of just...diamond surfaces: hard, shiny, flat. I have seen Toby Stephens in a lot of roles. I think he could do it. I think he could do arrogance and vulnerability, charm and dangerous temper and mood swings, intelligence and lack of self awareness, command and charisma and terrifying sudden violence.

I would like to see a show like that, done in prestige long format over the course of years. We should start out liking him and want him dead desperately by the end.

- "City on the Edge of Forever:" The second time travel episode, this is the one where they butterfly effect the Enterprise out of existence because McCoy has a medical accident that has him paranoid delusional and flees through a time portal into the 1930's. The central moral question is... so much less academic here in the 1st century than it was when the episode was made as the current rise of fascism casts a long shadow. Nimoy being Jewish adds an extra weight to his side that din't occur to me as a child. When Kirk tells the red shirts, Scotty, and Uhura that if they can't fix it they should all take their chances in the past, I couldn't help but think of how extra shitty time travel would be for her to pretty much anywhere in the last thousand years compared to the three white men, and likely for some time ahead of now. I understand the necessity of clothes theft, but it's the Depression.... Oh god, the racism. I'd forgotten Kirk's terrible explanion for Spock.

* Today was a rough one. The construction downtown requires increasingly more byzantine routes to reach the library. I timed things beautifully so that the forage line wasn't to long and there was a spot or me right in front. Alas, I also arrived between an inciting incident involving line cutting which I just missed, and what very nearly escalated into a three way battle involving the aggrieved party, the line cutter and an extremely aggressive an inexplicably emotionally invested bystander. A worker seemed to sort things out between the initial near combatants and was trying to deal with Aggressive Bystander, when things started heating up again, so I ran to give the worker a heads up on that. It was eventually sorted, but I hate that kind of thing and two of the men were quite large and shouty and I was way closer than I like to be. This was my least favorite part of teaching, and middle school boys are not nearly the threat to every one around them that grown men are. Teaching I had authority and a reasonable chance of stopping things before anyone got hurt. Here, not so much. They ended up moving Line Cutter back next to me, and he would not shut the fuck up, insisting on conversing with me when I just wanted to read and calm down and not social until I got inside. Instead I was required to talk about "Space Opera" and explain my spinal damage. He kept trying to help in that clueless not helping way of able bodied people. I wanted to be left alone and not fussed at and not have to explain in detail why it was nice of him to offer, but none of these things are actually help or things I want. He meant well and it was likely his way of calming down after the near fight, but my whole back is in spasm now and I'm in overload. Inside it was crowds of slow moving people spread out to take up maximum space, thus preventing people like me who are quick and decisive, from darting in to get what we needed and get out. And there were workers trying to help in the least helpful ways possible, including grabbing my cart, grabbing my crutch, not letting me do things the most efficient way for my disability, etc.. I was there earlier than usual, which meant most the workers I had trained over time how to actually help with things like lifting but not "help" in ways that make things harder for me weren't there. I was borderline echolalic by the time I was done which is always fucking embarrassing and I still needed to go spend the last of my food allotment on two packets of frozen naan, as we are low on gas and coming back another day would be super wasteful. The parking lot there was ridiculously full, and when I did find a handicapped spot a good long gimp away there was an able bodied lady with children and a cart conversing in it, so I had to wait for them to clear off to their car. Could they not have done that on the sidewalk? Luckily no one touched me in the store, as I'm not sure I could have kept from sticking out in reflex, and I did get home safely and the food put away. I am trying not to cry at the thought of making dinner.

- "Devil in the Dark:" This one starts pretty well, actually. The set is above average, they quickly establish the terror of the miners and create suspense. The first death is before the credits. It's so weird when ToS is actually competently executed. Of course, it's an all human sausagefest in the mines because in the Federation only men mine as was established in the first Harvey Mudd episode, and ToS is extremely human centric even by later star Trek standards. I don't know how to feel about Kirk and Spock exchanging positions on the Horta. Nimoy's performance really is haunting. There is a reason this one is on most favorite episodes list, because this one really does work as an entertainment and a message.

- "Errand of Mercy:" A cold war episode. Prime Directive? What Prime Directive. Let's go introduce ourselves to a Medieval tech planet and damn the consequences. Yes, I know there is more going on than meets the eye, but the Feds and the Klingons don't know that. When the locals point out they are not really being given a choice they aren't wrong. For all the pretty talk from the Feds they are colonizers here, just politer ones than the Klingons. They consider themselves in a position to judge whether this culture is worthy. Kirk's fury at pacifism and his foolishness in somehow not being aware that bugs and hidden cameras are a thing even though that's old tech when these shows were made and I doubt the Federation has completely lost the skill to make and use surveillance tech. Why even would you send Kirk on this mission given how completely incapable of impulse control he is and how he doesn't do any diplomacy that doesn't involve sticking his Dick in something. I do get that they are poking at the idea of how similar or different Feds and Klingons are but it's just slow and clunky, especially compared to the much easier to watch horta episode right before it.

* 45 is holding the Health Care System hostage for Tax Cuts for the 2%. 45 hates working Americans so much, his current plan is to bankrupt hospitals and collapse the entire American health care system by cutting off all government health care payments until Trumpcare passes and 24 million people lose their insurance to pay for the tax cut for the richest 2% he is demanding.

Seriously folks. Congress is on recess. Not only are there the Saturday tax day protests all over, but now is an excellent time to turn up at town halls and Congress Critter's district offices, and/or call to insist health care should be a right. Do not forget to thank Congress critters who are displaying back bone on this topic as we know how apt their spines are to jellify if we don't keep on them.

* ...And the foot thing is postponed til nearly the end of the month. It is nobody's fault. A family emergency on the part of my doctor requiring travel. I really wanted to get it over with and the reschedule doesn't give me the weekend to recover, but family absolutely does come first and it's better she go. I managed to resprain the ankle I mildly sprained... whichever day it was I scored the starts. It's bad enough I'm using the crutch around the houe and it's not the ankle attached to the foot I cut open, which means I'd likely have had to get the wheel chair out if they had been cutting my foot open in a few hours. It is very annoying that my ankles sprain themselves when I'm just shuffling around, but it's an ex athlete thing. That decade I spent distance running over rough terrain and concrete and endlessly injuring them when I was young, coming back to haunt me. I don't have a lot of cartilage and they are fragile. I'm lucky I never hurt myself dancing. That's a good way to take out a knee, for example. I knew athletes who started knees surgeries in high school. The running destroyed my ankles and the AS is gnawing my spine and hip joints, but my knees are doing pretty well given the pounding I gave them with the running and dancing and Wing Chun.

* I am still sleep shifted into the least useful possible sleep cycle, hence my odd availability. I'm not even trying to fight it right now, as I'm having an out patient procedure Friday early morning that involves cutting open my foot, and at least this way, I'll likely be awake at the appropriate time without struggle. How ambulatory I'll be after and how soon depends on how deep they are forced to explore, so I can make zero guarantees about availability times until likely next week.

* On paper the Almighty Johnsons sounds up my alley. Norse Gods running around New Zealand has a lot of potential as an idea, but the execution? Not so much. It's so clearly written by and for straight men and is incredibly blokey. It literally features a montage of straight people fucking early in the first episode, the plot centers on a war between the sexes and a man's quest to find a woman and fuck her. Charming. Despite including about as much male nudity as female nudity, the women clothed or otherwise are mostly shot for straight male amusement while most of the male nudity is for humor. None of the five male leads is appealing or likeable as characters, though Olaf is at least vaguely amusing. I'm three episodes in and honestly not sure what the fuss is about and I'm having a hard time with the women are either villains or there to be treated like shit by the men ethos. The library bought these things because I asked to see them so I feel like I ought to soldier on. (I'd feel worse about them ordering the series, except there are eleven people in line for them already, so clearly a demand existed). The man character is boring, annoying, weak minded, etc.. Anders makes me want to stab him, being rapey and horrible. Mike rubs me the wrong way. Which leaves annoying, but vaguely amusing Olaf, and hod who so far is the least aweful? I guess. It's not much of an endorsement when one is saying things like "doesn't use the magical equivalent of roofies and hasn't fucked anyone too drunk to consent that we've seen" are about all one can think of praiseworthy to say. When the best one can say about a show is three out of five male leads haven't raped anyone after three episodes... Wait, is that even true? Mike has been lying to his wife their whole relationship about who he literally is. So two out of five possibly understand consent? Maybe? Except I'm doubting Olaf tells partner he's a nonagenarian, which I'm guessing they might object to, and hod isn't exactly coming clean on his T except that one time, so... It gets grosser the more one thinks about it really.

* I decided I would likely never fly again after last time for health reasons. I simply am not well enough for 24-36 hour sagas involving long layovers requiring sleeping on airport floors and being jammed like a sardine into coach, not even for funerals for the last two family member i have left. Watching TSA intimately grope a twelve year old under the new extra intrusive guidelines confirmed this decision as I'm a member of two minorities that get extra scrutiny which makes every checkpoint an adventure. I worry some airline employee will have me no fly listed because they don't like which bathroom I use and I'll get stranded mid-country with no way home. I worry each time they will confiscate my meds instead of just interrogating me extensively about them while I get to stand there in pain explaining cf carrier and AS to them. I hated the old part downs as I don't like strangers touching me and I'm required to not hit these particular strangers. Watching the new more intrusive version I know I simply can't do it. Not even once, let alone the multiple times required for cross country travel.

And now the airlines have a policy of randomly selecting old men to be brutally beaten and dragged off planes, not for any crime, but to make room for last minute employee travel. United Airlines insists it was the old man’s fault they decided to have four thugs randomly beat him unconscious for their convenience and out of reflex the Chicago PD, which wasn’t even involved, is lying about what happened to blame the victim as well instead of arresting the thugs for their unprovoked assault, because the Chicago PD always backs thugs in authority over the rights of the victims. Fuck that! Fuck all of that. I love flying, but I want nothing to do with what it’s become.

* I am finding Wonder Woman heavy going. The Beauty contest made we furious at man involved from the writers on down. The two parter with Drusilla and paradise Island was a travesty. It was all male gazy and the Amazons are so excited by the "beauty" of the men they let NAZIs take their island without a fight, and are consistently ineffective against them. Why does Diana even like her stupid, sexist, obnoxious male side kick? She keeps telling us he's the opposite, but the show shows us how shitty he is and how poorly he treats her. I do appreciate the period appropriate sexist treatment of Drusilla in the first half as depiction without endorsement, but the systemic sexism in the design and execution of the show itself sure looks like endorsement to me or at least a complete lack of self awareness on the part of every man involved.

* I was thinking about a post on @poorquentyn about Arthur Dayne being dull, but enhanced in Ned and Jaime's eyes. I think this is analogous to Cersei's elevation of Rhaegor, including fan art. Look, i know some people watch skating for the falls, but I watch it the way I watch ballet. I watch it because it's beautiful and because it's uplifting to see human performing at the very edge of the physically possible. While several of the performances were heartbreaking, I don't think I've ever seen a skate as painful as Anna Pogorilaya's. She kept falling over and over. She started weeping; I started weeping. When she curled into herself on the ice at the end, I had reached the ugly crying phase and was still tearing up thinking of it all through the next performance. This is the most important skate in a non-Olympic year as it determines which teams get extra Olympic slots next year. There is so much pressure both from themselves and from their federations. The Russian team is so deep and wide when it comes to talent and they have the best women on ice right now all desperate for those slots. Everyone was watching. I am crying right now imagining what she must be feeling.

* Putin's spokesmen continue to lie that despite a large amount of evidence Assad's chemical attack on civilians is a hoax. Of course they are. They announced they are cutting off the deconfliction line that amoung there things helps prevent our pilots and theirs from literally crashing into each other, which seems a nose to spite the face solution. * The lead Soprano of the church choir in my childhood used the phrase "Jesus wept" for certain completely FUBAR situations, including our early rehearsals for the much hated "Like as a Hart" (routinely referred to by snarkier choir members, such as my Father, the lead tenor, as "Beat a Dead Horse."). We all rather picked it up from her, and I frequently have found myself thinking it in her exact tone of voice in response to events since January 20th, despite not being Christian. I also picked up the exclamation "Jesus Fuck!" somewhere in the last twenty years. As I was following Syrian Civil War/Trump debate today, I caught my brain exclaiming, "Jesus Fuck...Jesus Wept!" which image kept me amused at least five minutes and distracted me momentarily from the horror.

* Tavy woke up entirely recovered, much to my relief. I spent the evening taking a friend around on errands. I acquired the tomato starts and a rather iffy basil start. I may need to find another basil later in season, but all my bases are covered. While I was watering, I found a bunch more green starts, so did a massive rearrange, which lead me to discover the asparagus is already producing! I missed the first crop, which is fine. I will have to check regularly. I'm not used to them producing so soon in season, as my experience with them is all from Pennsylvania.

* So not only is Gorsuch out right lying in his commercials that he is backing the poor and minorities against corporations when the exact opposite is true, but he's a literal plagarist on a fairly large scale hich rather undermines his intellectual claims.

For serious, call your Senators and encourage them to block or stand firm if they are already blocking this nomination if you are able to. (I know some people can't for a variety of reasons). Remember, he believes that corporations have first amendment rights that Trump those of mere human employees. He is worse than Scalia and will likely live a very long time. Remember that if Democrats cave now, it will enshrine the idea that it is completely acceptable to refuse to even consider nominee by an opposing party so as to steal a nomination, as the Republicans have done in this case. If they kill the filibuster, they kill it. Better to fight and die on the moral high ground than roll over in expectation that they will keep using the threat every single time. Rolling over now for a vague promise we know Republicans won't keep next time is only making things worse.

* The cherry blossoms are out. They always remind me of My Soldier. We fell in love in Winter. We were young and he had not enlisted yet. He had long dark hair, and though his mother was white, he looked Native like his father. He wore a long grey coat and a fedora. I know, I know, fedoras are now a universal sign of assholery, but in 1990, the hat was unusual and quirky. With his long coat and his ling hair, the hat gave him a unique, vaguely 19th century look. He hated shoes even mor that I do, and had these huge feet with long toes he used like extra fingers. I picture him in Winter dressed like that, barefoot in the snow for the dash from his house to his mother's car, unwilling to put on shoes for the brief trip, as he always drove barefoot.

The street where he lived in 1991 was lined on both sides with cherry trees. They were intriguing shapes in Winter, lichen covered and Gothic. In spring they would burst forth into pink glory and the petals would rain down slowly, and cling to his feet, half crushed. The symbolism is not lost on me. He died in full flower, beautiful, and far too young.

Cherry blossoms forever remind me of him. Barefoot. Beloved. Missed.

* Tavy's been ill the last few days. Monday, he was clinging and grumpy, which was in character, as I'd been out all afternoon for Doctor and forage, so his routine was disrupted and he gets bored and lonely when I'm out. I also plunged into a 13 hour marathon write up of the Black Sails series finale, an activity he hates. Except a bit before dawn he started sneezing, poor wee thing. He's almost two and has had excellent health the whole time he's lived with me. I've lived with cats my whole life. I've seen lots of colds. Mache was very prone to them, likely as a result of her abandonment. She was sick with a vet and medication required lung thing when we rescued her, and had multiple colds a year over a long, happy life. I want to emphasize that I do not panic over a sneeze, but also know what is normal and what isn't.

By the time I had wrapped up my posting, it was clear to me this was a bad cold. I'd seen him eat not long before the sneezing started, and I know how dangerous not eating is for cats, so throughout, this is a thing I've been monitoring. When I woke up in the evening, he was feverish and miserable and I was worried enough to decide if he wasn't better by morning, I'd call Mache's vet for an appointment, and all this month's bills except housing be damned. I stayed in bed and read as long as I possibly could with him, and after I migrated out he was on me pretty much the whole night. All he really wanted to do was cling to me and huddle for warmth and comfort, so I could close monitor his breathing all night while coddling and reassuring. A little before damn, his fever broke. He started taking an interest in the sort of things he usually is interested in, and he had a little snack. He was still sneezing by bed time, so I decided we could manage without the vet. He's much better this evening. Long intervals between sneezes, breathing and temperature normal, still clingy and not in the mood to play, but interested in watching small things move erratically, checking out sounds, pettins, etc.. There was an hourish between sneezes just now, so I think it's okay, and he did eat something round about when I ate, and he just used the litter after a long shoulder cuddle.

This is why my availability has been terrible. I am generally working with only one hand and when he wants both, he gets them. I've been periodically trapped in bed or on the sofa, unwilling to disturb him when he manages to sleep. He is on the mend and Thursday ought to be better.

* I was awakened this morning at 9AM by a fucking real estate agent calling to try to convince me to sell my place and move. Fucking hell! Does this ever work? Does cold calling people, waking them up to harass them about neighborhood home prices really make people with no interest in moving suddenly want to do business with you instead of wishing they had the means to punch you in the nose through the phone? I do not want to move until I am forced into a nursing home. I have strong hopes of dying first given the cf carrier. I have a ground floor apartment that is 100% ADA complaint, with floors I can mop instead of vacuum which is good for my lungs, in a pet friendly building, with a patio I can grow a ridiculous profusion of plants on. Is it perfect? No. I worry constantly about the water heater, I can not afford to fix the door knobs and garbage disposal, and the plumbing needs an overhaul, but it all works well enough and it is safer and healthier than anything I could afford to move in if I sold out. Also, my property taxes are frozen due to the whole permanently disabled thing if I stay here, no matter how high they go for my neighbors. It would be a ridiculous waste of money and energy when I know that the monthly housing cost will drop dramatically once the building renovation is paid off, at which point I can start paying down the medical debt and start saving for when the water heater goes. Moving would dramatically worsen my situation in the long run, and even if I did want to move? No fucking way would I want to do business with some asshole phoning my to wake me up at too early in the morning with housing price figures. I'd likely just call the guy who sold me this place, who I already have a business relationship with.

Bonus points? An hour and a half later a scam charity called to solicit. Assholes.

* So I'm trying a Wonder Woman rewatch. Keep in mind that I saw them first in real time when they were brand new, to the point that I remember all the little girls twirling on the playground, singing Wonder Woman and pretending to transform. These were so important when I was a kid, in an era when boys liked to pretend only white boys were allowed to be superheroes and everyone else had to be villains or damsels to rescue. Diana had a job and was a superhero too. It was incredibly important and exciting to see her on TV I watched them in syndication into the '80's, but I likely haven't seen them since...I'm guessing 83? '84? The pilot rather cheesy by modern tastes, I fear, and the dialog is rather wooden. You can see the direct line from the Adam West Batman to here, though this isn't that kind of funny. Oddly enough, I had forgotten it was meant to be WWII and they were fighting NAZIs, this despite me clearly remembering everything else about the plot of the pilot. It is just so very seventies in look and feel and content, that I kept forgetting watching it that this is supposed to be the '40's. I am not impressed with the male sidekick, who is no where near her caliber, and I have other qualms. It has not aged as well as one would hope, but it was actually watcheable unlike Green Hornet, and I've hopes of it smoothing out a little next episode. I just... It's hard to separate the reality from how incredibly important it was to a generation of little girls.

* Health Update: I'm about half as sick as I was this time last week, which is a more functional thing. The steroids did way cut down the amount of gunk in my lungs, though I'm also clearly still infected with something. I am really struggling with things like food, though there is no real way to tell if it is the infection, the steroid's after effects, or the ravages of antibiotics. The Doctor prescribed a new long term lung treatment, but I'd already spent two hours at the Doctor and the pharmacy's usually overwhelmed that close to close. I also forgot to check if any money had cleared before I left. I've called a few more things in and will go pick up the mess another day. I am still heavily medicated even by my standards and the infection leaves me exhausted.

There were no tomato or basil starts when I went to the co-op and it turns out I can't even order a gravy flat as I'd planned to as the distributor wasn't even selling them. Sigh. I did get dried mushrooms there and emergency perishables on the way home, but my dream of tzaziki and naan will have to await another mission on another day. I do have a nice set of greens planted outside and have radically reorganized to take best advantage of the sun. My choice to leave the perennial herbs up high on the shelving has proved an excellent idea as the sage and sorrel are thriving and quite happy to poke up through the bars. I'm being liberal with the sluggo even though I haven't seen slugs yet as they are brutal with young greens, and I have a lot of fragile volunteers seeded out of last years crop. Let us hop we get tomatoes and carrot too, as last year was a bit of a disappointment in the carrot green department.

Next time you see someone mocking a woman for posting pictures of her breakfast, take a moment to imagine the time and energy men used to spend painting picture of theirs.

* Black Sails XXXVIII: Orpheus and Eurydice and Ambiguous Oracles.

I have a lot of feelings about this one. I'm normally a fan of ambiguity and unreliable narration, but in this instance I am left with a fury so deep I'm not sure what to do with it. For the record, I am agnostic on the Schrodinger's Cat situation. I leaned one way after first watching; I lean another way after deep analysis, wavered back and forth, but I am not really convinced either way and honestly wish they had not left us all with this mess. I will explain my reasons and thinking in the analysis, but I suspect I will not leave anyone happy. I know I'm not, but I do feel better having chewed it over at length. I do mean at length. Edited to add: I am leaning towards team live cat after the edit at the bottom and literally more than half a day writing about it.

Side note: Can we please have this cast in all the things? There are so many incredibly skilled actors here. I know Mcgowen and Stephens have particularly strong careers, but can we please put the rest of them, particularly Ms. Kennedy and Toby Schmitz in lots of projects, but really all of them in everything?
